A good sign was the honesty in the appraisal of what needed to be done. In my case, the main issue was that I didn't just need a new flat roof, I needed to have some restructuring done to the roof itself. That turned out to be exactly correct. They did that, the roof, gutter work, and then some painting.
Another good sign is the number of staff that these guys have. On the day that they did the garage roof, they show up with 8 guys. Ok, so, it's only a 1 car garage. Well, 8 guys who all know what they are doing can knock out a new garage roof pretty efficiently. This is not a vendor you will have to chase to have them show up and do the job.
Two winters have passed and now we are into a third winter. That's enough time to make a fair assessment on a roof job. Well, I can report no leaks, no drama, no issues whatsoever. Nice.
The important thing is that they showed up quickly, they had a cheerful attitude, got right to work, and whatever they removed from the roof fixed the leaks for the rest of the winter. So all in all they were professional and effective.
Prompt, efficient and professional from the first contact. Price was competitive and pleasantly straightforward. No hard sell: measure then very prompt detailed written estimate. Clear contract, started on schedule and finished on schedule. Cleaned up after themselves, no damage to anything when working. There was a miscommunication on the color of the gutters, most likely our fault actually, and not a problem at all, installation cheerfully rescheduled.
Ironically, the job was right before the Sandy storm that decimated my yard, our yard was a war zone of downed trees and the damage therefrom. I remember distinctly hearing a very loud thump on the roof that night like something large hit it, I think the huge heavy top of a tree that then rolled off and hit our patio so hard it dislodged flag stone. The roof and skylights held tight. So that roof is battle tested and passed with flying colors.
They have a contracting affiliate that does other work I will always call these guys for any job I might have.
He expected me to allow these same workmen to try for a fourth time. No. I hired a local licensed plumber (Dave Goldberg Plumbing) who repaired the plumbing. The overall repair was so extensive that yet again the marble floor, bench and lower walls had to ripped out, the custom glass doors had to be removed and reinstalled. I had to buy more marble, and there was the expense of an experienced marble/tile installed. The hall ceiling needed to be repaire and repainted. Total cost of repair out of pocket was $6,423.02.
He refuses to this date to reimburse me for his negligent work. I was forced to hire a lawyer, and I am currently involved in a lawsuit with him in the Supreme Court of the State of New York. Now I have the additional expense of attorney's fees and court filing fees.
Homeowners, make sure your contractor uses licensed, skilled and experienced workers. Also make sure the workmen who show up to actually perform the services (Dennis Adams was an absentee contractor) speak English.
I give a B for the cost as the estimate was not really below others and not cheap per se, however, the estimate was in line with others and maybe slightly less but if so not by much, HOWEVER, it was very reasonable for the work done and I actually do not put the highest emphasis on cost when getting important work like this done, a cheap roof will not last 30 years.
They were very co-operative, updated the estimate quickly two times when we added things and came when they said they would.
Everyone, from the office workers to the salesman, the workers and the foreman were all really responsive, polite and more than competent.
They moved things they needed to like all our deck furniture, worked quickly and were done in a week. We live in NY and Hurricane Sandy hit shortly after, the top of a tree fell on the roof and rolled off and we took a LOT of tree damage from the high winds. The roof remained perfect.
I could not recommend these guys any higher,
