Since the unit now works, I guess the repair was successful, albeit it took a week plus and $2500. Twice they did not show up when they had specifically designated a day and a time, and I had to re-do my work schedule to accommodate their schedule. One time, the explanation given was that everyone had the flu...but in both cases, nobody bothered to call to say they were not coming, which short of death is inexcusable in the service industry. I would have fired them then an there, but I had given them $700 to buy the parts (copper piping, freon).
Every time they worked on the unit, they went back to their shop for something that was not in the van multiple times, which I find strange. The repair, when they did show up, took place over 3 days...each time working an hour or two. This should have taken maybe 2 hours to diagnose, then they should have scheduled one day and time to come back with everything they would need to do the repair, which would have taken no more than 4-5 hours for the two men. Instead, it dragged out over several days. Not a big deal from a comfort standpoint since the weather is not hot yet, but a large inconvenience.
Finally, they charged 16 hours of labor (2 men, 8 hours). I was here for every minute. Even taking into account the 6-8 trips back to their shop, it was no where near 8 hours ( I would estimate, including the unnecessary trips that it was 5-6hrs total).
The invoice said $1400 parts, $1400 labor. The only real detail was 2 men, 8 hours. They said they would knock it down to $2500.Based on the labor that actually occurred and the parts used, it should have been about $600-9000 parts, and $600-900 labor max.
There is still a hole in the side of my house that they said they would repair included in the $2500 I paid.
All in all, I was disappointed. I could not recommend them again. I am looking for a new A/C guy..which is why I joined Angie's List.
