I do like the way that it looks however as I stated above there is a large portion of the patio that doesn't have any texture and I am very concerned about the skim coat. After the job was completed Tony called asking for the second half of the payment which he said had increased by $600 due to the amount of concrete that was needed. In reality it was due to his error in doing a single pour instead of 2. Originally, it was to take 4 days for the job but because Tony was trying to cut cornered I have a sub par patio with potential future problems and it took 6 days.
"This job didn't turn out as well as we hoped. We were delayed by weather forecasts that were predicting severe thunderstorms that never arrived. We also believe we got what is called a "hot load" of concrete, which sets up quickly but the concrete co. will never admit to that. The concrete was setting up as it came down the shoot. The spilled concrete came from uneven ground and a new laborer pushing the wheelbarrow. We did clean and rake the sight upon completion and a few pebbles may have been missed. My Foreman is no longer with me. He was more interested in making his life easy than working. He misread the concrete when he was pouring and could have taken measures to help the hot load. We didn't stamp the walkways on the job because the concrete was to hard. We opted for doing the Toppings instead which is a common practice. We did toppings over a pooldeck we poured that was pelted by golf ball size hail and it came out fine. Toppings are used often when resurfacing concrete and match the original pour. In our agreement about extra concrete if needed the $600 was never paid and I didn't make an issue of it because of some of the mistakes. Extra steps were added to the job which weren't charged for either. Steps and a retaining wall take quite a bit of extra concrete. I will admit it wasn't our finest hour but sometimes things happen that you have no control over and employee error does occur. We put in extra time and effort to try and correct any mistakes. 75% of the job turned out nice with one section having some problems. Concrete has a mind of it's own and sometimes it's hard to deal with. Every job is different and some have higher degrees of difficulty. This job being on the higher end of difficulty with steps and a retaining wall and a hot load of concrete. I was delayed arriving on the job until it was about a third of the way done. It was not a big job but I would have poured it differently than my foreman. In my 30 years of pouring concrete I've dealt with several hot loads of concrete but they are a rarity and tough to deal with. Wish I wasn't delayed, as I am always punctual and maybe some of the mistakes could have been avoided."
