time to report an issue with 3 heating units in our Great Neck Home. Was quoted
$120/hour but when the plumber left after 1h exactly (no parts used), he said
the labor price is $157.50 for the first hour. Additional hour is $120. Ok
fine, I was probably not informed correctly when I called. He let the air out
on all 3 units, 2 of them started working fine within 10 min - easy job. The
last unit required some more troubleshooting. He said, the valves (?) need to
be replaced, which is $70 in parts and around 2,5h labor. I said, I would get
back if I decide to come back. After he left, realized that some lids were left
open on the floor and another one was very loose - would have been nice if the
plumber would make it look the same way it was before he came.
Few days later decided to go ahead with the estimate he gave. I called the
office and scheduled a time. Next day they called me and postponed the time for
another day since they had to do another job first- which I thought was not
very professional but I agreed to the new appointment - this also caused me to
reschedule meetings. The same plumber came, however, he did not bring any parts
with him. I told him this is why I scheduled this appointment. He said, while I
am here, let me try to troubleshoot the unit little bit more and quot;I hate
it to be just an air issueand quot; he said. I said fine, whatever you
suggest. After 1 hour of playing around with the unit he decided to drain all
water out of the heating system. 4 hours later, he is now trying to fix units
in other parts of the house that were working perfectly fine and now needs to
be fixed, the original unit is still not fixed however, and one unit that was
perfectly working fine (confirmed by him) STOPPED working completely! I asked him
how long he has been with the company and he said 3 weeks. After 4 hours I told
him to leave. Especially since he spent most of the time on his cell phone and
spent every time like 5-15 minutes to get a tool from his truck.
I spoke to the office and asked them if they think it's fair what they are
doing, that they would bill me close to $800 (includes $70 parts) and not only
NOT resolving the issue but also breaking another unit that was working fine.
They said they can send the plumber again, which I obviously refused - not
paying a dollar on this company.
I asked to talk to a supervisor - Veronika - she was friendly but would only
offer to remove 2h of labor or it would be handed over to billing (collection)
- I suggested to pay a total of $250 (including the first job) for everything,
she refused. She said she can deduct the taxes from the bill if I am willing to
pay in cash!
End up with a bill of $754.93 and more issues than I had before they came to
the house. Have Job Work Order number if anyone wants to see proof.
I should have read the reviews about this company first before hiring them.
NEVER again. Now I need to find another company to fix what they broke!
Justification of each rating:
Price: F - $754.93 for just letting air out of heat units (a 10 year old can do
this) and drain water is just ridiculous.
Quality: D - Plumber didnt know how to troubleshoot and end up breaking
previously working units.
Responsiveness: F - insisted that I pay full amount, later 10% for job that was
not done.
Punctuality: B - first time on time, 2nd time came 30 min early which I had to
pay for not being home.
Professionalism: F - didnt use proper tools to empty water, spilled dirty water
on the walls, left lid open on the floor before he left.
I dont expect a company to be perfect and be able to solve every problem, but if you dont get to fix or identify the issue and break another unit that was working fine before you should take necessary actions to resolve it and not charge. Offering me to send a supervisor to come over to give me a flat rate and pay additional $ is not right. Shame on you Thomas Curley.
"We arrived at house and met the owner (Landlord) and was let into house by house keeper. This system is a one pipe mono flow system on a old house which others have tied into and created more zones and radiators over the years. This can lead to circulating issues due to changing the original design when it was first installed. House keeper showed us radiator in front bedroom and three others which covers were off of one and screws missing from covers on others.Advised landlord that he needs to change all air valves and that there could be a possible broken shut off valve, flow tee broke or steel element clogged.Plumber tried to bleed air out of radiators with towels laid out and a small cup to catch water so no water would spill on floor or walls. Three of the radiators got hot and one did not. Told landlord that the additional work neede to be done and he said he would call us back. Reinstalled two radiator covers and two other ones were missing screws. 12/5/12 Arrived at house for second time was met by landlord but could not get into house until housekeeper showed up 1/2 hour after scheduled appointment time. She stated that there was no heat in entire house. Checked out boiler found no electric going to boiler. Checked out power switch on top of basement stairs flipped switch and sparks came out. Advised lanlord to have electrician change switch. Boiler turned back on and fired up and started gettting hot. Checked out all radiators and one was not getting hot. Advised landlord that system would have to be drained down and shutoff valve checked out and all air valves to be changed he agreed to this. We found shutoff valve in open position and changed all valves and filled back system and started bleeding out all air. We had a hard time bleeding out 2 zones that were added to original system due to what I mentioned in begining of statement. One pipe mono flow systems are very delicate and when other zones with long loops are added it interferes with the whole flow of system and causes problems throught the house. We advised landlord that more work needed to be done and he told us he would call back at another time. This house is 63 years old and has been worked on and additions added onto it and when you have to service them sometimes other things can happen. These type of problems are fixed on a trial of elimination basis as there can be quite a few different things going on that can cause this type of symptom. Kind of when you go to the doctor and he needs to try different medicines and a few appointments to get at the root of the problem. All our plumbing technicians are well trained and come with many years of experience whether they are with our company for 3 weeks or 30 years. We are a very well established company serving our clients since 1972. We have a very good reputation of being professional, honest and fair. We stand behind all our work that we do. We dicounted this customers bill to try to satisfy him and keep him as a customer but I guess you just cannot please every one we try our best. I did want to mention that the tennant had mentioned that they were in the middle of a legal issue with landlord and that they were holding back their rent due tio lanlord not fixing this problem and others. And with sparks comming out of electric switches I hope he had that issue corrected. We really tried to help out and resolve this matter on all levels but customer was very unreasonable. I am sorry you felt led to write such a review. Hope you were able to solve all your issues in the house and keep your tennant happy."
"This House is a very old house which has lead waste pipe embedded in the bathroom floor. We did not use outdated equipment or the wrong head. When snaking out any drain especially a lead pipe there is always a chance of that pipe getting damaged during the snake out of pipe. We advise our customers that we are not responsible if this does occur. When getting any type of procedure done by even the best of Doctors before he begins you must sign all types of papers holding him harmless if anything goes wrong during the operation including death. So with all this said there is always a chance that this can happen. Ask any licensed plumber or drain cleaning company and you will be told the same. As far as the problem goes she did have other bathrooms and was very difficult to deal with. And our insurance company always compensates the client regardless in order to get the problem resolved. She also dragged items into the room and some of the damaged things in the room were very old and worn out. This house was in poor condition and looks like customer does not properly maintain her house. We try our best to deal with every situation and have a very good reputation in our community since 1972."
"All our service work is based on a time and material basis. When customer calls in our dispatcher explains all our charges and that if technician needs to go out and get parts that they will be charged for that time. Customers tend to exaggerate the time that the technician goes out to get that part. Also we cannot control the time it takes to get part if there is a line in plumbing supply before we get there. There is no way any plumber can carry every part in his truck it is impossible. We try our best to carry parts we us on a constant basis but that is about it. This customer is unreasonable with his rating and comment. I am sorry we could not satisfy him."
