Disaster. They are becoming too big for their britches. I have been using them for a few years, with no problems, but this time the mechanic came in and told me there was a new rule - they could not replace any filters or waster panels for humidification which I did not purchase directly from the company. He would not put in the filters or panels I had purchased on my own. I called the company, and the guy I spoke to (Bob) said that there were problems with filters purchased elsewhere, that they were sometimes "sucked into" the unit. I told him I was not going to pay double for the filters and water panels, which is what they were charging over and above what I could get them for. This company has also quoted me a price on replacing a central air conditioner condensing unit, which is about three times the price I have seen it for. I have NOT purchased it from them. After I told him he was price gouging, he said they would install my filters if I signed a disclaimer that the company would not be responsible for the items if something went wrong. I had no choice but to sign, since it was already the beginning of the heating season, and I had no time to start searching for a company. When the mechanic wrote up the contract, for which I had to give him a check, he put down that I had three zones, and I had to pay additional for two of them. I have always paid for only one extra zone. He explained that the hot water baseboard heat in my basement was a third zone. When I called the company, and asked about this, I was told it was the "boiler" I was paying for as a third zone. How ridiculous can you get? The boiler is what sends the hot water heat to the two units. I have never seen a company which overnight becomes so money hungry. The mechanic said that since one of the other major companies locally has gone out of business, that Systematic has all their business, and they are the biggest around. One would think this would give them enough income so they don't have to engage in such greedy practices, but it seems they have decided they are the only game in town and can charge whatever they like, for whatever they like. I discovered about a week after the mechanic was here that I was not getting any humidity. Since I did not trust anything they had told me, I decided to call in another company to determine the problem, before I called Systematic back to remedy the problem. I watched the guy from the company I called open up the humidification units, and it appeared that the guy from Systematic had put the water panel frames in backwards, bending them in the process. There was no way they could work in that position. I had this new guy take them out, do his best to bend them back into shape, and replace them. He also told me that when Systematic had done some previous work for me, they had run the humidification through a cool air duct, which meant I would not really get any humidity. I later checked on the manufacturer's site, and they did state that the humidification units had to be run through warm air. After the visit from the new company I had called, I called Anthony Carbone, owner of Systematic Control, and he insisted tit did not matter where the humidity was run, and that if there was a problem with the humidification units, maybe his employee had a bad day. This man he was talking about, who bent the units, and cost me a lot of money with another service person, has worked with them for twenty-six years. I checked back on all my old bills, and found that I had always been charged for two heating zones, not three, and the charges had always been significantly less. I finally told Mr. Carbone that I obviously could not trust anyone from his company, including Mr. Carbone himself, who did not seem to own up to what his employee had done, nor could he recognize the manufacturer's own stipulation about how the humidity should be funneled. I told him I wanted the money from the contract back, that no service had been performed, and that he had cost me a lot of money elsewhere to correct the problems his company had caused. It appears that Mr. Carbone is not willing to let go of my money. He wanted to keep most of what he charged me for the original contract, for the "service call", which was close to four hundred dollars, and return less than $100.00 I told him that if I did not receive the entire amount back within a week ( and he really should have been charged for what I had to spend to fix his employee's damage), I was going to report him to the BBB and the Department of Consumer Affairs, and the Chamber of Commerce, which is what I am about to do, since Mr. Carbone has ignored me. This is not a cheap company to begin with. They are expensive, but most of their charges have been for legitimate work. I do not consider their behavior over the filters and my boiler as fair, or warranted. In my book, they are as bad as thieves.
