I was referred to this CPA as we had recently moved into the state. I needed my Federal and two state returns completed. I made an apointment to bring my two previous years taxes and my current year tax receipts and dropped them off with him on March 19. Once there I was told I needed to tally all my receipts and just bring him the tally (gee - this is part of the paid service of a tax professional and I DID NOT want to domy tax returns this year as we also now have a rental property. I returned and dropped off the infomration on March 21. I was told if there were any question I would be called. I was also told we would be called when the taxes were completed. We were never called. I called worried on April 9 and was told he had not gotten to them yet, but would be completing them the next day. I did not hear anything the next day and called again. I was told the taxes were completed and I cold come pick them up (when was someone going to call me?) I picked them up after work on Thursday April 11 and paid the office their fee. I went home and reviewed the tax forms (EVERYONE SHOULD DO THIS!!!) I was appalled! There were many, many basic, clerical errors. He had mad up my and my husband's birthdays and made us twins at that! He placed us in the wrong county, copied only half the street address from the W-2's to the tax forms, had the wrong street information for our rental home, and we had provided our routing and account number for a direct deposit only to have it marked to be sent to us by check! Now for the MATHEMATICAL errors! All of the medical expenses were not entered onto our Schedule A (the insurance premiums from the W-2s!), the Health Savings Account information and the Tuition from the 1098-T (which was provided) was not entered! I immediately called Thursday before they closed and outlined these specifically. I was told Mr. Hayes would call me back that night or the next day. I indicated he had better since I had already paid for his service and it was not accurately done and further that filing was due on Monday April 15. When I did not hear anything on Friday after leaving four messages, I decided I would go to the CPA office on Monday - Tax Day to find out what was going on. When I arrived there was a not on his door stating his office was closed Monday April 15 and Tuesday April 16! I was infuriated! Not only did I NOT KNOW what was going on with my taxes, but I didn't know if they had been filed! I had to rush to a library to get the form to file a Federal extension, was able to file one state extension online and mailed the other return. The IRS agent I spoke to laughed and stated "Who ever heard of a CPA being closed on the most important tax day of the year!" Never mind that the voice mail never once said they would be closed. I called first thing on Wednesday morning and his office people were extremely apologetic because they had been told he was going to call me on Friday afternoon. I asked to speak to Mr. Hayes and was advised he was not in yet, but they would have him call me. I again never received a call. I called Thursday, STILL srying to find out what was going on with my taxes - mortified that they were late. I demanded to see Mr. Hayes that afternoon, but was asked "he didn't call you"; again could not see him. I finally was able to make an appointment for Tuesday April 22 at 4:30 - 11 days after it was "completed" the first time. I walked in to his office to " I have no excuse; so I will not make any" yet the taxes STILL weren't done. He had decided to "wait" until I got there to go over my questions. He then said I will get these off is a day or two and I immediately said "I am waiting for these and I want them and transmitted tonight." Had I just told him to send them without reviewing the forms they most certainly would have been kicked into review and delayed our refund. The mathematical error would have cost us nearly $500 in additional refund due to us had I not caught it. He could not say anything regarding why he never - ever called us.
I would not recommend this company to anyone.
