The owner is an experienced craftsman; and he worries about every single detail of the job. He does not cut corners to save time or money. He literally works as though he is working on his own home. I will never call any other handyman besides ALS General Contracting.

My initial estimate for the work to do was approximately $490. plus parts. Some of the work was more involved than he thought. I needed extra parts, which he picked up. No mention of how much extra it would cost for parts and labor. When he showed us a breakdown of the bill (on his phone) it came to over $2000.! We paid it, never getting a printed or digital receipt. It was quite a surprise. I would like to get a receipt for the job they did.

We hired Al to do some custom frame molding on a rather large wall in our living room. We knew what we wanted but weren't sure of the execution due to a ductless AC system that needed to be incorporated into the design. Al, Nick and Franco worked together to customize a design that fits perfectly into the space and has simply transformed the look of our living room. As for the quality of the work, the three men worked as a team and produced first-rate finish carpentry work. They showed up on time, were polite and genial, and answered any questions we had with patience and knowledge. Since we realized had stumbled upon a gem of a company, we asked if, while they were here, they could do a few other small jobs that needed tackling, involving electrical, lighting and spackling work, if it was in their range of expertise. Al and Nick assured us it was no problem, and those other, smaller jobs, were done with the same expertise and professionalism that the original job produced. We cannot give them higher praise. Hire ALS General Contracting!

Al was wonderful. He was reliable, helpful and guided me through my stressful and unexpected project. He calls back, he texts you if he can not call and most importantly when we met, I knew he was the right choice for my project. Quality work, great team, great experience.

Al, Nick and Lou have been my trusted general contractors for more than 15 years. The house I inherited needed to be brought up to current code and required many, many different upgrades, including, electrical, plumbing, windows and railings. In addition, he has repaired storm damage and subsequent painting and drywall repairs. I also hired them to supervise the refinishing of my hardwood floors. He also is in charge of tree removal and general landscaping after storm damage. I would trust Al to do an excellent, professional job with anything that arises. He can either do the job with his crew or has a vast network of building professionals that he can call in for specialty projects.

Plaster Repair
$10,400
Al was hired to repair plaster damage and the associated leaks including in the living room (from an air conditioner) as well as a 3rd floor window. The project involved small items (such as switch replacement as well). Asked for the remaining 50% prior to the job being even 75% completed. Given some issues regarding quality and completeness that arose throughout the course of the job, I requested a final walkthrough. He showed up on a crutch, limping heavily and I felt badly about asking him to tour the work outside. I had asked at the outset that if the project went 10% over the $9400 estimate, that he speak to me before he proceeded as I had a limited budget. He produced two invoices: one for the remaining 50% of the estimate; the second for $1200 additional. I pointed out that this was not consistent with what we had discussed and then in reviewing the second bill noted that he had charged me twice for the repair to the third floor leak. He blamed this on his medicine. I asked what had been done to remedy the air conditioning leak, and answered vaguely that I would have no more problems with it. When I pressed for detail, he stated that the "drip tray was clogged" and in addition to cleaning it out he had "drilled two channels so that the unit would now drain over the bushes". He stated that there was no need to replace the unit for "quite a while" that it was working well, however he did mention that the plasterers indicated there was "nothing behind the wall" Al told me to give him a call in a week so that he could install the Ring doorbell and check some outlets. I am a single mother without a good understanding of the mechanics of through the wall air conditioners, however when I walked out to trim some bushes along the side of the house a week later, it was obvious that something was wrong. The area appeared not to have been touched. There were no obvious channels drilled, only old rusted through areas in the sleeve where water had been dripping. The area had been sealed (in the past) with clear packing tape. I tried to contact Al multiple times through text and email for the next two weeks. When he did respond, it was via text and told me he would call me later, he was in hospital, etc. Now, a month later the plaster work in the living room (around the air conditioner) is bubbled and ruined and the area wet, as the leak was never fixed. The unit was apparently never installed with drip units (incorrectly) and there has been a good deal of standing water in the unit for quite a period of time, which introduces the risk of electrocution (with the plug beneath the unit) and mold (leaking into the wall). In looking with field glasses at the 3rd story window which was supposed to also be fixed, I cannot see evidence that anything was done. I now have to pay for the work to be done a second time. Given the previous high ratings, I was very disappointed, particularly as his estimate was actually the highest of the three tha
