Workmanship and pricing were both acceptable through most of this process, but communication and schedule were always problematic, characterized by long delays between days on the job, failure to return phone calls and emails, and general unresponsiveness. I recognize that most small electrical contractors need to keep multiple projects running simultaneously and was largely accepting of the delays so long as the work was ultimately done properly. This was the case until the final stage of the project. In July, the control board for the electronic gate at the entrance to the driveway was shorted out in a storm. Kymax took the job of replacing the control unit, having installed , coincidentally, the original unit back in 1999. The new control box was installed, but in the process the gate motor was damaged beyond repair and needed to be replaced. Kymax told me that they had ordered the replacement motor at their own cost, but the installation was never completed. The gate has been inoperative for over 3 months, and Kymax has not responded to my repeated attempts to reach them by phone and email. It is my speculation that because I had made progress payments against the work completed, Kymax calculated that the money remaining to be paid was less than the cost to them of replacing the damaged motor, and that it was therefore advantageous to them to simply disappear and not finish the job. I regard this as the height of unprofessionalism, and have not encountered anything like it in the course of multiple renovations over 20 years.
Description of Work: Kymax performed a number of standard home electrical repair and renovation operations, including replacement of switches, outlets, recessed light fixtures, repair of an electronic gate, etc, over a period of several months.
