Herring Sanitation Septic Service known as the "Septic Detectives" is a family owned Septic company that has been in business since 1973. We pride ourselves on satisfied customers and do our best to solve your septic problems with the most cost efficient solution. We employee 12 to 20 people depending on the season. Our phones are manned by trained staff to answer all your septic questions. Jimmy and Jason Herring are never too far from reach and we can usually send them right to you in the event of an emergency. Herring Sanitation accepts most credit cards and we also offer payment plans to those in need. Once we service your septic system we put you on a reminder program at no cost so you remember to service your septic system. We file all necessary paper work with the Board of Health on your behalf when we make updates to your septic system. Herring has a customer base of over 15,000 and would love to take care of your Septic needs.

Great! One of the owners (Jimmy) came on-site, located the tank (which we had no idea where it was), and dug to locate tank inlet/portals. The tank was pumped, and they water-jetted the line to remove all blockage. This was all completed the same day as my initial call. THAT'S WHAT I CALL SERVICE!

Awfull .These guys totally destroyed my yard and showed little interest in making good on cleaning up their mess.Also access to the tank which was supposed to be above ground is 1 ft below surface

I needed to have my septic tank located, pumped and serviced. I didn't know where the tank was. My husband is disabled and so he wasn't able to assist me with locating the tank or digging the access.
Herring had noted in my account that my husband is disabled because we have used them before. The man that came out was so helpful. He found the tank (the info about where the tank was was noted on my account so even though I didn't know where it was they did!) and Herring had him dig at no cost to help us due to my husband's disability. We also got a repeat customer discount because we have used Herring before.
We have used Herring for years and their guys are always good. This particular time he was particularly good. He was personable and even pointed out some issues that we need to watch for possible future maintenance needs. He said that we need to stay on top of it because we can fix something for a lot less than it would cost to repair it.
Even my dog liked the tech - though he likes everyone so I guess that's not saying much. But it's nice to know I can let my dog out to say hello to him because otherwise my dog barks because there is a stranger in the yard...which can agitate my husband.
I would definitely use Herring in the future and I have recommended them to others.

Absolutely no issues. Driver was courteous and friendly. He was careful not to damage our landscaping and when he was done, you could hardly tell he had been there.

Herring was here in about an hour (less maybe), courteous, professional, and efficient. In an effort to save some money, my husband accepted advice on how to clear the blockage in the pipe, when the pumping failed to do the trick (the septic was full to the brim, so the pump was necessary anyway) but was unable to clear it himself. We called again, and they had technicians out here again in about an hour, removed the blockage, and - had my husband not taken it upon himself to cut a pipe that he'll now have to mend - everything but the mess would now be handled.
Herring was more than accommodating, and the price was very reasonable, particularly in light of the emergency situation we were in. I would have expected to pay a premium for same-day service (2x), but that was not the case. My family is extremely grateful for their speed, efficiency and exceptional service, we'll be customers for as long as we live here.

"Herring installed this tank correctly in 2010 and measured 30 inches at the completion of the installation. This was noted on the paper work submitted to the property owner at that time. We have no knowledge as to what was done to the property after we left but possibly there has been fill installed over the area to level the yard. There was NO WATER rising out of the tank when we were present nor was there any signs of that. There seemed to be untruths to this statement. We are sorry that you felt unsatisfied by our free visit out to your house to explain what we thought was happening."

Derek, our Herring technician, is truly a professional. Not only is he a pleasant person but his tips on preventing a further disaster like I had, was very informative. And even suggested that I could adjust the pipe from my house to tank to increase the downward angle, $1,000 of free advise. Never put grease down your sink - It does go somewhere! But I had gone far too long between pumpings and will definitely use Herring 4 years from now. They are dependable and go that extra mile.

I called 5 days ago and spoke to Sharon Herring about the odor when running any water in my house. She gave me prices for emptying the septic tank and any digging. We made an appointment for 5 days later. The serviceman arrived on time, found the tank - I only had an idea where it was - hooked up, emptied it, and I paid the man. Very easy transaction.

Punctual, professional, and honest. He pumped the septic, but unfortunately we were having other problems. He helped us to diagnose those, but unfortunately was out of the range of septic - we needed a plumber. He was honest about what he could do versus what he could charge us for but would not do anything. I would definitely recommend.

Another provider was scheduled to pump the tank that day, but they called and cancelled. I then went to Angies List and found Herring Sanitation, who had good reviews, so I called them and asked if there was any possibility to have my tank pumped today. I was on hold a short while and they came back and told me someone would be there between 1 pm and 4 pm. It was already 145pm. Derek arrived about an hour later and did the job. He also had some concerns regarding our fill level, but after pumping and then hanging down into the tank with his light, he found the reason for the higher fill level and told us it would be fine, not to worry, and explained it to me.
Derek was very punctual, professional, polite, knowledgable and genuinely concerned about our situation.
I would use Herring in the future. I live in the Town of Wappinger.

They were late, I had to call to find out where they were.
Couldn't locate the tank easily, had to pay extra $ for them to use an electronic tank locator
Great attitude though which goes a long way in my book. It was also 100 degrees and oppressively humid that day and they kept at it for 2.5 hours until the job was done. Will use them again

Everything went fine. He came out, we located where the septic hatch was, he attached the equipment and pumped it out. It solved the problem we had with sewage odors and there was no further problems or follow up necessary.

Herring's service was excellent. They showed up at the appointed time in the pouring rain. Did not try to sell me anything I didn't need. Pointed out that the cover of the tank was starting to deteriorate, but did not over sell it. Called back to discuss a new cover. Price for a new cover, with extender was very reasonable, and tech was sent out same day to install new cover. Very pleased with this organization.

The appointment for the estimate was scheduled for the afternoon that I called then about my problem. They did need to reschedule the appointment for repairs because of illness of members of the repair crew. I would suggest that if they are running an hour or more late for your appointed time, that you contact the office to confirm if they are having problems. The office had informed me that the repair crew should arrive mid morning, but depending on whether they needed to do additional work on the previous job, that they may not arrive until the afternoon. My repair could have taken from a half day to .well over a day depending on the results of the diagnostics.

When I called to setup the appointment someone answered right away. They were friendly and knowledgeable and scheduled the visit for the time I requested. All costs and options were clearly explained. The company arrived as scheduled. There were some problems locating my non-standard placed tank but he was able to find it. Because the tank had not been pumped in a long time, it required an additional backwash, which he described to me upfront before doing it. Overall, he was friendly and courteous and obviously knew what he was doing. I'm satisfied with the work performed and plan on calling them again for the next routine maintenance.
