I would have liked it if Gary Johnson (the owner) showed up at least once to check on their work and progress. The tile in the bath was installed from floor to ceiling and could have gone up about a 1/4and quot; higher in one place as there is a larger gap with a thick band of caulking on one side that is a little bit unsightly. (That's why Gary should at least stop by the job site at the end to inspect the work performed by his workers). I really didn't notice it until sometime later and figured I could live with it. I may mention it to Gary though when I get a chance. I also noticed that after the job was done, the door that was placed on the bathroom was not textured (Faux wood grain) as I had requested during the estimate, was to match the faux wood grain on my closet slider doors in the kitchen. I am replacing bedroom doors as well and wanted all doors in the house to match. I failed to mention this to Gary Johnson and again didn't realize the mistake until much later when my wife brought it to my attention. Yet another reason for Gary to come by with a check-off list when the job has been completed instead of waiting for the customer to notice things later. If Gary (L.A. Johnson is going to be your remodel contractor, insist he come by to check on the work when completed and to bring his estimate and scope of work to be performed with him.) Despite some of the negative feedback here, everything looks great but I would have things done differently next time.
When Gary first came out to our house to get our input on what we were looking for and take measurements, we could tell right from the start he was a true professional and had been in the business for a while. He was the only one that took the time to look at our basement and attic for accessibility and look at all outlets and switches and wiring to our electrical box. His initial design was right on the mark and actually under our budget. We took the opportunity to tweak the plans a bit and add some upgrades - enabling us to have our dream kitchen!
Once work started, his crew was there every single day for 6 straight weeks. The project was completed right on schedule and we never had to worry about if and when they were going to show up. Gary doesn't sub-contract any of his work, so he was accountable for the entire scope of work. Once the project ended, there were a couple of minor things that needed to be addressed, and as soon as we gave the list to Gary, he had a guy out the next day to finish everything up, no questions asked.
We added a couple little things along the way, but the costs were clear and he basically charged us just his cost - so there were absolutely no surprises when the final bill came in.
Along with the kitchen, we replaced all of our downstairs flooring with hardwoods, which Gary's crew installed. We also had them replace our open staircase with oak treads (versus pine wrapped with carpeting). We feel like we have a brand new house and have received so many wonderful compliments on all of the work. Highly Recommend!
