dWhen one hears the story of things tat can happen in a move, horrifying happenings, fradulant contracts, etc. Mayflower leads the way.
A very slick salesman arrived. sold us a song and dance and procedded to literally screw us over. Nothing that the company did lived up to any of their promises. The salesman was informed of the value of our contents, he was especially told that some breakable objects had tio be very carefully packed. My husband explained to him that our collection of Royal Worcester Horses, which we had been collecting for over, was extremely fragle and need speical handling, ie figurines place seperatly in bubble wrap and put in one at a time in a small box. The salesman agreed on this service. At one point I have a written letter from a dealer who knew of the collection, asking if Her could sell the entire goup for over one hundred thoussnd dollars.
We paid for insurance up to $500,000, for this vanload and paid to have it unpacked in Palm Beach by there movers in Fla.
The moving was a week later than promised, costing us to spend a small fortune in hotels, in NY and Fla. awaiting its arrival.A week later, the shipment came, the wooden boxes were opened, but the cardboard boxes werer not opened by this crew. We had paid for extra service to accompish this service in NY, but the contracting movers said it was not their jiob. They left only taking the wooden crates out.
The dist5ruction of our home goods is unfathamavble. Seven priceless horses were distroyed because they were improperly packed,a 9x12 Savonare rug that we had pruchsed 40 years ago, was ripped, stained and no longer usable, it had to be discarded.Marble tops on 18th century consoles were broken in half, the fla. delivery men stated that they had not been packed correctly, did not have enough padding or proper boxes to protect them. Mirrors, 18th century were torn apart. You get the the meaning.
Now, in NY a contract was signed with Mayflower, the slaesman arrived about 6:30 PM to sign the contract. All the lighting had been removed and there was no where it could be seen properly in the dark.. Asked to come bqack the next day, the salesman said, he was to busy and that we would lose the shipping date if we wanted to long.
Papers in the dark were signed and, the mantra of Mayflower is, a contract is a contract.
When shipment arrived a week later, we found out that our belonings had been taken to an overnight warehgouse. This is where I thnik some of our valuables were stolen.
Our so called insurance, which was writtren on the original insurance policy (for stolen or damaged goods, were written in legable, surrounded by bold red boxing,. However, in the smallest of print tillegable to the human eys, it stated that all insured items had to be listed. WE WERE NEVER ADVISED TO WRITE SUCH A LIST.
Upon complaining to Mayflower, they conteneded that the the insurance policy had clearly stated that allm insured items were to be listed..Hah.
The Fla deliverymen claimed that my husband told them not to open the cartons, that HE WOULD DO IT HIMNSELF. The mman is 84 ye4ars old, whty would he tell these men to go away. It took over a month to unpack all the items in the van. I hope this helps people from being conned.
