I ordered a closet door (90"x96") through Home Depot online. Each door is approximately 100 pounds (300 lb item). Custom Door and Mirror is the vendor for this product. Beveled Edge Mirror Solid Core Chrome MDF Interior Bi-fold Closet Door. This product arrived wrapped in plastic with minimal cardboard on the each side. Each door and the track were in separate packages. One door was broken.
I hired a contractor to install the doors. I did not open the packages as I didn't want to take a risk of any damage prior to installation. The contractor first opened the track box and installed. Then opened the first mirror door and installed that and then the second door and installed that and then opened the third door and he mirror was broken on the door. In addition, the door pulls were not included with the hardware. I contacted Home Depot immediately. Of course, it always takes a couple days or more to get a response. So we finished installing the product, thinking they would replace the broken door.
I received an email that the vendor (Custom Door and Mirror) would not send a replacement part. They indicated I would have to return the item at my own expense. I personally contacted Home Depot and I thought they were going to send me the replacement door. A couple days later I received an email that said the vendor would not replace the part. I would have to repackage the items and send them back. I again contacted Home Depot and they said they couldn't help me. I asked to talk with a supervisor. She indicated she would contact the vendor and get back to me. Again, I received an email that I would have to repackage the entire item and return it and then I would have to reorder the item. First, not sure how I will repackage a door that was only wrapped in plastic to begin with. When I asked them about that, they indicated it would have to be properly packaged or the delivery company would not pick it up. Go figure. I will now have to have the contractor come back and take down the entire 300 pound items and see if the delivery company will pick it up. I think I will be out over $1,000 for this item. All I want is the one replacement door with the door pull handles. And why would I reorder a product that is so poorly packaged - don't want to take the chance of another broken item. This has been so frustrating.
Home Depot does should stand behind the vendors they use and make this good. I am a single older woman and I am unable to install, uninstall or carry 100 pound doors - so this has cost me a forturn.
