There were two major issues with their service:
1) They could not provide consistent lead times for their installation. The sales person and the installer/measurer/estimator had two different understandings of their schedule. This is understandable as schedules change constantly. However, I was seeking ballparks and each provided completely different ballparks varying by six weeks.
2) They were unreliable and unresponsive. I was told I would have an estimate within a week of the measure. When the estimate was not received within that time period, I called our salesperson three times over a five day period. All three calls went unreturned. After I escalated to another salesperson, I received a return call from our salesperson who gave me the usual excuse - "we're so busy that we cannot complete our work within the time we promise and I cannot return calls to tell you that because..."
I requested and received a refund of the measuring fee.
In short, I do not recommend McKennas. My experience could have been a result of my salesperson's lack of performance. However, i could not commit to a major job with this firm given they were unreliable and unresponsive during the selling process.
- I began my search by going to 3 local kitchen and bath companies as well as a big box store. I wanted to get a feel of the place, to see how they treated someone who just walked in off the street with no appointment. A designer at McKenna's Kitchen and Bath was the only one that spent a full hour with me answering all my questions. Very helpful, and I learned a lot about the whole process. The work began March 11, 2014. The carpenter assigned to our job was very professional and punctual. He would always call before arriving letting me know he would be there in 20 minutes. He was also pleasant and cordial. The same goes for the electrician and plumber.
The work involved was new cabinets, with removal of soffits, quartz counters, tile backsplash, new lighting, adding outlets and reconfiguring placement of the refrigerator, a counter and desk. The designer that helped us choose the counters, sink, fixtures and cabinets was very knowledgeable of their products.
There was a job foreman that oversaw the whole project who would come over often to check how things were going. He was only a phone call away. If I had and concern or question he would be over within 24 hours. He even came over once on a Saturday afternoon.
Overall, we were very pleased with McKenna's . It's not pleasant having your kitchen torn up for weeks, but it was made so much more tolerable having a company that is so easy to work with. We get many compliments on our new kitchen.
However, the final cost of $44.50 for a service call, $25 for materials, and $350 for labor, for a total of $419.50 was $184.50 more than the quoted cost. In addition, we were charged sales tax, although it was a capital improvement.
When I went to McKenna's to resolve these issues, the owner who had quoted the prices would not come out to speak to me. However, our toilet seat had come in and no one had called us. Subsequently, I had to submit an application for the refund of the sales tax, and was issued a refund check from the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance.
Since I ordered this Toto toilet from an owner of the company, I assumed that the quoted price for installation was correct for this Toto toilet. Otherwise, we would not have chosen this skirted toilet, or would not have hired McKenna's to install it.
"This is outrageous and untrue."
