Beautifully. Jim came out as scheduled and found that the leaking toilet was cracked. Since it is in the only bathroom on the 2nd floor, we needed a replacement pronto. Kim in the showroom helped us find a suitable replacement in stock, and this was installed the next day. Less than 24 hours from start to finish. Jim did a first-rate installation working around an uneven tile floor.

They created a beautiful kitchen- removing the wall between an old dining room and kitchen. Design: We had 3 rounds of designs before finalizing. I wanted to maintain the old traffic flow, view into the backyard when seated, and incorporate storage for china and wine. I also wanted the rangehood vented outside, a farmhouse sink and a dishwasher. They created a modern, open space with ample storage in a relatively small space (12X12). We would have never thought of such a design going it DIY. Products: We went with the quartz cambria countertop and recommended faucett - both very high quality products - much better (but more expensive than DIY stores carry) The cabinets were medium quality cabinets. The wrong drawer came and was installed. They came back to replace it with the correct drawer design. The farmhouse sink is awesome and was worth the price. Installation: We had planned on DIY installation, however, and they were happy to provide all the materials and design for us. But the installation price was really reasonable and would be complete much faster than doing it ourselves on a part-time basis. Therefore, we had them do the entire job. They showed up when they said they would show up. They moved plumbing, added venting , electrical, and lighting. They were friendly and courteous and professional. They made sure we were happy. The only (nit picky) con I would say is that sometimes they did not clean as well as I would have liked before the weekend. They did a sweep, but I would have preferred them vacuum since I was going to be walking through the space on the weekend (to use basement, etc). Unforeseen Problems: They were flexible and solution-oriented when they encountered unforeseen problems (as typical with old houses). The design called for some very complicated angles - especially with opening the cupboards by the microwave. The microwave had to be set in more than usual so as not to prevent the upper cupboards from opening. And the wall by the refrigerator door had to be modified to allow the door to open wide (because I did not order a refrigerator with a zero-clearance door). Also, we discovered the walls were not insulated and the garage door header was non-existent. So we ended up having them replace the door to the garage and add insulation to the walls "while they were at it" at very reasonable price. Overall: They transformed the space and we definitely would not have had such a beautiful kitchen without their design and products.

The time estimate to complete was on target which was important because it was being done between Thanksgiving and Christmas. A complete demolition of a 1930s bathroom was completed which was labor intensive and very dirty. But the house was. left clean nightly. The contractor completing the job took pride in what he was doing and worked as if he was completing his next "masterpiece." When my vanity came in and was oversized for the space, a correction was made without question (or cost).

They did a great job. They wasn't enough venting to remove all the water quickly and they fixed it. I would definitely use them again and would highly recommend them.

Jim was friendly and funny for having to work in a very tight space. Workmanship looks professional and sink now drains properly. Only downside is McKenna does not offer discounts for Angies list members.

The measuring went fine and as expected.  However, we never received the overall estimate.
There were two major issues with their service:
1) They could not provide consistent lead times for their installation.  The sales person and the installer/measurer/estimator had two different understandings of their schedule.  This is understandable as schedules change constantly.  However, I was seeking ballparks and each provided completely different ballparks varying by six weeks.
2) They were unreliable and unresponsive.  I was told I would have an estimate within a week of the measure.  When the estimate was not received within that time period, I called our salesperson three times over a five day period.  All three calls went unreturned. After I escalated to another salesperson, I received a return call from our salesperson who gave me the usual excuse - "we're so busy that we cannot complete our work within the time we promise and I cannot return calls to tell you that because..."
I requested and received a refund of the measuring fee.
In short, I do not recommend McKennas.  My experience could have been a result of my salesperson's lack of performance.  However, i could not commit to a major job with this firm given they were unreliable and unresponsive during the selling process.

  • I began my search by going to 3 local kitchen and bath companies as well as a big box store. I wanted to get a feel of the place, to see how they treated someone who just walked in off the street with no appointment. A designer at McKenna's Kitchen and Bath was the only one that spent a full hour with me answering all my questions. Very helpful, and I learned a lot about the whole process. The work began March 11, 2014. The carpenter assigned to our job was very professional and punctual. He would always call before arriving letting me know he would be there in 20 minutes. He was also pleasant and cordial. The same goes for the electrician and plumber.

The work involved was new cabinets, with removal of soffits, quartz counters, tile backsplash, new lighting, adding outlets and reconfiguring placement of the refrigerator, a counter and desk. The designer that helped us choose the counters, sink, fixtures and cabinets was very knowledgeable of their products.
There was a job foreman that oversaw the whole project who would come over often to check how things were going. He was only a phone call away. If I had and concern or question he would be over within 24 hours. He even came over once on a Saturday afternoon.
Overall, we were very pleased with McKenna's . It's not pleasant having your kitchen torn up for weeks, but it was made so much more tolerable having a company that is so easy to work with.  We get many compliments on our new kitchen.

McKenna Kitchen and Bath gave us a good price for a Toto toilet and quoted a price of $235 for installation, more than the cost of standard installation, because it was a skirted toilet.  Installation was delayed as we waited for the soft close seat to arrive, although it still had not come in when the toilet was installed.  The first plumber was unable to install this toilet, as the water source needed to be changed, so a second person had to come out the following day.  Both men were skilled and pleasant.
However, the final cost of $44.50 for a service call, $25 for materials, and $350 for labor, for a total of $419.50 was $184.50 more than the quoted cost.  In addition, we were charged sales tax, although it was a capital improvement.
When I went to McKenna's to resolve these issues, the owner who had quoted the prices would not come out to speak to me.  However, our toilet seat had come in and no one had called us.  Subsequently, I had to submit an application for the refund of the sales tax, and was issued a refund check from the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance.
Since I ordered this Toto toilet from an owner of the company, I assumed that the quoted price for installation was correct for this Toto toilet.  Otherwise, we would not have chosen this skirted toilet, or would not have hired McKenna's to install it.
Response from McKenna's Kitchen & Baths....
"This is outrageous and untrue."
