Went great from start to finish.  Tom the auditor is thorough and explained everything to us about how our home worked and we could be more comfortable.

The workers who did the installation were polite, clean and hard workers.  Even in the near 100 degree temperatures.

Our house feels great!

It didn't happen.  I did not do the recommended work in attic that they proposed
Response from BrightHome Energy Solutions

"I'm sorry that you did not complete the work suggested by our Building Performance Institute certified Energy Efficiency Specialist back in 2011. I just finished reviewing our scientific analysis of your home. We spent over 3 hours in your home and another 8 hours modeling and developing a unique energy efficiency plan for your home. Your home's air changes per hour are more than double the ASHRAE standards for your home. Imagine keeping your window up year round 20". That is the amount of unnecessary air flow entering your home. Additionally, our unique work plan would have reduced your energy consumption for heating by 36%. I cannot not disagree more with your local contractor that you did not need the work suggested by our scientific testing and analysis."

They could have completed everything. They were supposed to get back with me with a whole bunch of information after the evaluation was done and it just died. They did the audit and called to tell me what they found. Then they were supposed to say, if you do these things or try these products or whatever and that never happened.

This was a big deal purchase and it was fine. It could have been better, but it was adequate. They did say they would patch up the walls and we would have everything ready just to be painted, but that didn't happen so we had to have the walls sanded down before they could be painted. Initially they were very responsive, then someone came out and looked at things and gave me an estimate. Then they followed up with the individuals who were to do the actual work. I just found it hard to communicate with them. It did not make the process that much easier; it made it harder.

Response from BrightHome Energy Solutions

"This review is inaccurate and the member is attempting to get free work. We fulfilled our contract which called for two coats of spackle; painting to be completed by others. We were clear along that our work was not to a paint finished standard. Copies of the contract and workscope are available for review."

Price was in the mid range of the quotes I received.  Nick (Project Lead) was very professional, helped prioritize options for work that needed to be done.
Crew was on time and organized.  They protected the finished space effectively.  Installation looks good and they completed some additional work (repairing wood platform in attic) that was not specified.

The only thing bright home recommended was that they cut holes in our walls and blow insulation into them. That was the ONLY recommendation they had for an unrenovated lakeside cottage. really? there's nothing else???

Dealing with there representative was the worst part beside them not getting the work done right.  Required multiple visits to get the work done right.  He was a kind of person who has no business being in actual contact with a customer.  He was brusk, rude, arrogant, short, and extraordinarily unprofessional.  They refused to deal with me.  They subcontracted some of it out and even though the contractors, very clearly between me and them, they have refused to take any responsibility for the ongoing problems that I have with there work.  The subcontractors were part of the package from the beginning and I have nothing but phenomenal things to say about them.  If it wasn't for them I would probably already been in court with Bright Home.  They're wonderful.  They have probably lost double the amount of money that they have made on this particular subcontract work for them because whatever Bright Home refused to do they stepped up and they're very, they put a lot of time in there reputation and there name, but ultimately it is Bright Homes problem with me.

The workers were very friendly & professional.  Clean  up was OK. They did leave a  little foam on the siding which I removed with a little effort. I really liked the energy assessment they provided before the job began. It was very thorough.

After moving into our new older home in the middle of winter we were immediately dealing with heating issues including drafts and almost immediate heat loss when the heat was turned on. We struggled to keep the house in the 70s through the winter even with the heat running 24h/day. We also had a pipe freeze in the middle of the house (which I've been told by many plumbers almost never happens) while the heat was running!
We hired Brighthome to do the following work:
+Dense pack cellulose on all exterior walls
+Seal basement rim joists
+Air seal and fix insulation in all crawl spaces throughout the house
+Fix insulation in garage and finished attic above garage
+Insulate unfinished attic
+Remove old house fan and seal house fan ducts/vents that were not in use.
Nick was extremely easy to work with from beginning to end. Brighthome assisted in all paper work including the financing through NYSERDA and the rebate (also from NYSERDA). Nick was also great at explaining everything that they were doing, why they were doing it and took consideration to fix all the problems we were facing (ice dams, drafts, etc).
In total the project took 5 days to complete. The crew came on time everyday and was a pleasure to deal with. Important to note these are all actual Brighthome employees (not subcontractors) so they care about the quality of work. The team went through the entire house and meticulously worked through the many problems that came up in our energy audit report. They were able to complete the work scope 100% and even fixed some problems that were not initially diagnosed. They left the house extremely clean and in some cases (the basement) they left cleaner than it was before the project.
Nick warned us there would be some damage to the exterior clapboard from the dense pack insulation. This did turn out to be true but the team did a very good job fixing and patching all the damaged wood. Brighthome is not responsible for painting so are going to fix this part ourselves (not a big job).
While we will have to wait for the winter to see the full results, we already noticed improvements. The house takes a lot longer now to match the outside temperature (stays much cooler in the day even without the AC on. I am pretty confident we should have some significant improvement in comfort once the winter rolls around (and hopefully savings too).
In terms of the measurable improvement on air tightness, the door blower test improved significantly and is now out of the "severe" range and into a more "moderate' range of air leakage.
Our initial blower door test: 6495 cfm50
Final blower door test: 4000 cfm50
Overall we are extremely satisfied with Brighthome, Nick and the entire team that worked on our house. If you are looking for a quality team to improve energy efficiency in your older home, I would highly recommend this company.

BrightHome did only visual inspection, and used out dated fan blower to test efficiency of the house. This was less than optimal, as most of the questions about where my energy was being used/lost wasn't answered. I never received a copy of the report. It was as if some one just went through your house casually browsing and occasionally. The finished by using a fan technology from the 1970's to tell you that it isn't accurate. Over all its a waste of time, effort, and money. The information you get is like the 'captain obvious' commercials, you already know that.
Response from BrightHome Energy Solutions

"I fully disagree with these comments. Our equipment meets and exceeds the standards set by the Building Performance Institute (BPI) for safety, health and air flow. An audit report was prepared along with suggested work to solve the problems in this home according to BPI, NYSERDA and at that time, LIPA standards. These reports were completed in 2013 shortly after the audit."

Vendor was professional polite and curious.   My primary concern was decreeing where a major air leak was in a den room and that was not able to be determined.
