The workers who did the installation were polite, clean and hard workers. Even in the near 100 degree temperatures.
Our house feels great!
This was a big deal purchase and it was fine. It could have been better, but it was adequate. They did say they would patch up the walls and we would have everything ready just to be painted, but that didn't happen so we had to have the walls sanded down before they could be painted. Initially they were very responsive, then someone came out and looked at things and gave me an estimate. Then they followed up with the individuals who were to do the actual work. I just found it hard to communicate with them. It did not make the process that much easier; it made it harder.
"This review is inaccurate and the member is attempting to get free work. We fulfilled our contract which called for two coats of spackle; painting to be completed by others. We were clear along that our work was not to a paint finished standard. Copies of the contract and workscope are available for review."
"I am the owner of BrightHome and this is the first I've heard of your story. I'm sorry that you had this experience with BrightHome. This is not how we want to do business. In response I will immediately do the following: 1. Refund your $299 audit fee - in the mail today, November 4, 2015. 2. Since your audit is almost 4 years old we will re-audit your home at no charge. 3. Offer you a 10% discount on any additional services. You have my sincere apology, Mike Brown. Crew was on time and organized. They protected the finished space effectively. Installation looks good and they completed some additional work (repairing wood platform in attic) that was not specified.
We hired Brighthome to do the following work:
+Dense pack cellulose on all exterior walls
+Seal basement rim joists
+Air seal and fix insulation in all crawl spaces throughout the house
+Fix insulation in garage and finished attic above garage
+Insulate unfinished attic
+Remove old house fan and seal house fan ducts/vents that were not in use.
Nick was extremely easy to work with from beginning to end. Brighthome assisted in all paper work including the financing through NYSERDA and the rebate (also from NYSERDA). Nick was also great at explaining everything that they were doing, why they were doing it and took consideration to fix all the problems we were facing (ice dams, drafts, etc).
In total the project took 5 days to complete. The crew came on time everyday and was a pleasure to deal with. Important to note these are all actual Brighthome employees (not subcontractors) so they care about the quality of work. The team went through the entire house and meticulously worked through the many problems that came up in our energy audit report. They were able to complete the work scope 100% and even fixed some problems that were not initially diagnosed. They left the house extremely clean and in some cases (the basement) they left cleaner than it was before the project.
Nick warned us there would be some damage to the exterior clapboard from the dense pack insulation. This did turn out to be true but the team did a very good job fixing and patching all the damaged wood. Brighthome is not responsible for painting so are going to fix this part ourselves (not a big job).
While we will have to wait for the winter to see the full results, we already noticed improvements. The house takes a lot longer now to match the outside temperature (stays much cooler in the day even without the AC on. I am pretty confident we should have some significant improvement in comfort once the winter rolls around (and hopefully savings too).
In terms of the measurable improvement on air tightness, the door blower test improved significantly and is now out of the "severe" range and into a more "moderate' range of air leakage.
Our initial blower door test: 6495 cfm50
Final blower door test: 4000 cfm50
Overall we are extremely satisfied with Brighthome, Nick and the entire team that worked on our house. If you are looking for a quality team to improve energy efficiency in your older home, I would highly recommend this company.
"I fully disagree with these comments. Our equipment meets and exceeds the standards set by the Building Performance Institute (BPI) for safety, health and air flow. An audit report was prepared along with suggested work to solve the problems in this home according to BPI, NYSERDA and at that time, LIPA standards. These reports were completed in 2013 shortly after the audit."
The audit consisted of a pressure test (which concluded that our house is just barely not the outdoors in terms of air flow and heat loss, but was interesting anyway. The most useful test was the infrared detector which revealed a few actual holes we could patch immediately, and showed us which (few) areas of the house already had some insulation done and could be left alone.
We have a better idea of how to proceed with improving our home's efficiency, good ideas on what kind of insulation will most benefit us.
I was happy with this provider's services.
