GUS & SON HOME IMPROVEMENT INC

Gus is the sole owner and laborer. There is no son involved in the work as it was presented to us. 80% of the work was completed, except exterior trim and caulking not complete, the upstairs window frame to be repaired or replaced remained untouched, and three windows in the interior have not been addressed for repair and caulking. One window had an air conditioning unit in it that he asked us to remove and we complied, but it remains a window unaddressed. The job was contracted in early September. Initially showed up as scheduled and was very affable, an excellent conversationalist, repaired the windows that had difficulty staying up when opened as well as removed and sent to have one of our window's double pane resealed; this was not part of the estimate so paid separately for its repair. He started exterior caulking of trim and cut the dead wood from each side of one window trim and replaced with unequal size pieces, so the joints where the old pieces were cut out and the new pieces were joined appears obviously not flush. We hadn't seen him return to finish the job and after several calls, finally learned he was having vehicle trouble and had to replace his truck. We sympathized and waited patiently. Sometime in October he acquired a new truck and only learned this because we accidentally wondered upon him and his new truck at another residents home in the neighborhood. Upon confrontation he apologized for not calling and promised to complete the job the following week. It appears he had been securing other jobs while we remained captive for him to complete the work he started with us on our tudor home. The following week came and no Gus, no phone call from him either. We got through with our calls to reach him, but his promise to finish didn't materialize. After a while our phone calls went unanswered and so we called from a different phone number to which he did answer surprised to hear it was us. He again promised to show up, and did a day later than he said he would during freezing temperatures. By this time it is the second week of November, and we both acknowledged that doing exterior work in the frigid temperature was unreasonable, and therefore delayed to the following Monday, 24th, to complete the work. It is Monday and no Gus and again no phone call from him, and despite several attempts through out the day he is not returning our calls. Gus is knowledgable, but does not appear committed. Definitely unreliable, and not the best way to spend your money. Our personal experience was a real disappointment. He comes across as a nice guy, but we subsequently learned the hard way not to be sold by the gift of gab.
