Brooks Painting

Owner talks a great game. Came out for the quote and talked about the quality of the work, gave references (checked out) and gave 3 quotes. 1 for basic, 1 for minor stripping and priming(+- 7K which ended up at over 9K), and 1 for a full strip (17.5K). I chose the second option, and when I found out that it only included 1 coat of paint, chose to pay additional $1000 for second coat. The home was being changed from white to sage/green, so I knew 1 coat would not do it... not sure why a quote would not include enough to actually paint the home. I went with his quote though it was the highest of the quotes I received, because I wanted the home done correctly, and was under the impression that he actually cared about the job he was to do. Though the quote had the repairs included, I was told any carpentry work would need to be outsourced and I would need to find someone. I did a lot myself, and hired a contractor for some. Brooks's 2 person crew later ended up doing some of the work as well, but charged extra for it. Some of the home was not power washed. Many areas have only 1 coat of paint, and white/gray primer is showing through. Areas that needed priming were not primed. They painted over mildew on balcony railings after being told 4 times that they should clean it and re-paint. Painted almost all of the windows closed, and did not move some windows to be sure they painted all of the surface area. The green is supposed to be 2 slightly different colors, darker on bottom siding and lighter on top siding... it is divided by decorative molding and 2 different kinds of siding. The paint was slopped on and there is no dividing line between the colors. They couldn't cut a straight line between white trim and green sides. 2 windows that were to be replacements for damaged ones were painted with 1 coat, not scraped or sanded, and then left out in the rain. Many pieces of trim/soffits/overhangs that needed replacement were not repaired. I asked about a dozen times for them to at least let me know if something needed replacement so I could at least do it or have someone else fix it, but was not notified.. they painted over rot or damage. The window glazing is coming off where replaced, and many areas that needed it were not done. Called them back to the home 3 times, on the third, the owner told me rudely that it would be the last. They did none of the items that I showed them on that day, so I decided that it was not worth the frustration to try to call them back to the home again. 6 months later, paint is peeling in some areas, glazing is coming off, and I am going to need to pay another painter to scrape all the places where they painted over the dust/paint chips that they had scraped and did not clean off the sills before they painted, and repaint a good portion of the home correctly. If you would like to pay top dollar for a low quality job, these guys fit the bill!
