Spoke with Wendy to explain problem and the repair needed. Described the blinds and the project and asked to be sure that the installer would come with the part needed so the repair could be made in one trip. She indicated she would do so.
So here is the following sequence of events.
1 -- Installer shows up one hour late (no phone call).
2 -- Does not arrive with the replacement hanging bracket as promised. Tells me he needs to order the part and will come back next week.
3 -- Next week comes and they never get back to me -- no phone call.
4 -- I give them time and finally call them two weeks after the initial visit and speak with Wendy.
5 -- She tells me the installer never filed a report with her so that was why I was never contacted.
6 -- She tells me someone can come to my apartment to repair the blind and they would have the part with them. I ask if they had they part, why didn't they just come with it on the initial as I initially requested. No real answer provided.
7 -- Another installer comes with the part and make the repair.

I asked at Janovic (from whom I had originally purchased the shades) about getting them cleaned. The salesperson gave me the phone number (but didn't provide the name of the company--just the name Wendy). I called the number, which turned out to be for Verticals Unlimited, and made an appointment for an estimate. (I did feel that Wendy's phone style was rather abrupt.) I was told Mauricio would come to give me an estimate, and if I was satisfied he would take the shades for cleaning at that time. Mauricio arrived within half an hour of the specified time. (Parking in my neighborhood makes it hard to get to places on the dot.) He came with one other helper and inspected my shades, showing me where there were two slight tears and also where a cleaning might not remove some darkening. While he was here, he started fixing my tangled cords and one of the clamps holding the shades to the wall. He gave me an estimate, which I thought (but did not say) was pretty high. He then called into his office and lowered.the estimate, saying he had miscalculated. He said it would take a week to do the job. When I said that I really needed them back sooner, he arranged to have it done in three days. I asked what the cleaning technique was, and he said it was what is called "onsite cleaning" but they do it off-site because of the noise. It is my understanding that this type of cleaning ("injection/extraction") is recommended for older Duettes because it doesn't require submersion in water. (I learned about this from having previously spoken with Hunter Douglas.customer service and from the Hunter Douglas website.) I really didn't want the shades cleaned while they were in my apartment, so that sounded good to me. Because I liked the information he provided me (price, cleaning technique, timing) and he seemed very professional, I decided to have him take the shades, although I had originally planned only on getting the estimate. I was told the shades would be delivered during a two-hour time frame three days later. Mauricio arrived earlier than scheduled on the appointed day and re-installed my shades. They looked just fine, although, as he had warned me, some of the darkening did not come out. (I hardly notice this.) The cords looked great, and new plastic gizmos had been added to the cords. I did see one tear in one of the shades, and he was able to fix it on the spot with just a bit of glue. (I only knew to look for the tears because he had pointed them out when he first came to give me the estimate.) I was very satisfied with my experience, both working with Mauricio and the results.
