He showed up a few days later bright and early, measured my lawn, and left a quote for both the lawn rolling and removal of a tree stump in my front yard, which I didn't ask for. If I would have blindly signed the quote without reviewing, I would have agreed to work that I didn't ask to get done. I wrote on the quote a request to perform the lawn rolling after a heavy rain. He called a few days later and said that the equipment should indeed fit back there fine but that it's probably too late in the year to have a huge impact, but he can still do the work if I choose. I said if we wait until after a good soaking that I'd still like it done.
A few weeks went by, and after a good rain soaking I contacted asking if they get it done asap. They said they were busy and had nothing available for 2 days and would show up early, around 7 or 8AM. Two days later, I called around 11AM to ask where they were. During the day it's hard to contact anybody in the company and I always got the answering machine. By this time, the lawn was rather dry having no precipitation in 2 days. About an hour later, somebody showed up at my house (I was at work) and rolled the front lawn. He then realized that his equipment would NOT fit in the back yard gate. He called the owner, and after deliberation it was decided that he would manually roll the lawn. This took about 2 hours and he had to empty some weight a few times from the roller (water-filled).
I called later that day, and had to leave a message again. The owner called back to explain that there was a miscommunication and the worker had to manually do the back yard.
Overall I am rather dissatisfied with the final result. The owner probably should have convinced me to wait until the next spring or be better prepared to respond immediately after a long soaking, with the proper equipment to get the job done in a decent amount of time. It would have taken half an hour total had the proper equipment been brought to do the job.
