Went better than planned! Larry, the owner was very informative and he guided us on every step of the installation process. Dependable and reputable. I knew I called it when I knew these guys were in Business since 1964..and it showed.

Hired Did Hills for 2 separate homes owned by family members. Not only did they give the best price but the service and time frame aloted was on target. They have there own licenced electricians and plumbers as well as fabricators of the duct work that really made hiring them seamless and cost effective. I highly recommend calling them before you make your final decision. The consultation and estimate was at no cost. The owner Larry was spot on and went over everything step by step. Other companies came for estimates which were way higher and frankly not as up front .All went well, and was all done in 3 days. They were very neat and repaired the sheet rock where they had to cut for the vents. They left the house clean. What was best was the consultation before the job, and the instructions on how to operate the system.

This company is complete trash. The service is absolutely atrocious. You never know when or if they're going to show up. They started installing an A/C in my house 3 months ago and they still haven't finished the job. Before I signed a contract, they promised no damage to the house. There's damage all over the place including a gigantic hole in my ceiling that they tried to hide with a vent. The problem is that you can see right through the vent. The whole process has been a disaster. I really regret choosing Dix Hills Air Conditioning for the install. If you call the office the kid who answers the phone has no idea what's going on. He always needs to have the owner call you back. The call back always comes during the late hours of the day, the next day, or not at all. Communicating with them sucks. The crew they send to your house cannot communicate in English. Larry, the owner, is a doddering old man who doesn't take any responsibility and just makes excuses for his company's terrible service. If you're thinking about getting an A/C from this company. DON'T.

"Sorry but your statements are not correct.. Photo that you showed ... As mentioned to you before ...is a temporary grille until the correct one arrives... You were told this at the time it was installed.. many parts have been backordered because of covid 19. We are sorry for the delay on this grille, we want this job to be completed as soon as possible just as you do... Due to the pandemic some things are out of our control. Thank you"

This was the fourth or fifth time repair was needed on our heat pump/ac unit because they don’t have parts. I have been waiting over three weeks for a part to fix the heat . I was told that the part would not impact the a/c but now find that I have no a/c. Time to move on to another service provider.

Poor. They wanted to replace most of the system instead of a low cost repair.

Job went smooth, the crew showed up on time and got straight to work. Cleaned up after themselves and made sure I was happy with the plan. They have their own custom register covers that completely close and are adjustable. They put the outside unit where I wanted it and ran the electrical wires how I wanted them.

l was a customer of Dix Hill's AC for 17 years, they did my heating and air conditioning systems. I called in May for a Tune up on my AC, waited 3 weeks for an appointment and the day before my appointment they called to reschedule. I said no, I took the day off from work. They said they would change my appointment to a service call then for an additional $25, they did that last year too! The Tech came, said I needed Freon and a new thermostat, which I was charged $150 for a $40 thermostat with the Dix Hills name on it. In total my tune up came to $502. July 4th, 3 weeks later when the AC was turned on the ceiling started to leak, I thought it was the roof so I called roofing contractors. They came said it wasn’t the roof, it was the AC unit in the attic. Without going into too much detail, on July 9th a Tech from Dix Hills came, went into the attic and reported his findings to me in front of my contractor, the problem did not occur because wear and tear. He said call the owner, talk to Larry. The plastic pan in the unit had been cracked in 4 spots and was duct taped, the water was coming out. I called the owner and told him what the Tech said, he told me “the Tech didn’t know what he was talking about that he’s been doing this for over 40 years, and that‘s why you have insurance”. I then told him to just fix the problem. A week goes by, no call from Dix Hills about the new pan, so I call. They can’t find the part, Carrier doesn’t make that unit anymore they will have to measure it. Pan is measured on 7/15. 7/21, I spoke to the office they said the pan was ordered. I also talked to the owner who told me it was my fault, because my attic fan wasn’t working. “The cold water hitting the hot plastic pan is what caused it to crack”, also he doesn‘t “know why the unit was duct taped“. Only his service men were in the attic?? And that if I didn’t have the fan replaced (at the cost of $495), he wouldn’t send his men over to work on the unit because of the heat, OSHA regulations. At this point I told him that he put me between a rock and a hard place that no one would want to clean up his mess. Which he knew. That was my last time I heard from Dix Hill's AC.
In summary:
1- The quality of their work has gone down, as evident with the reviews I read on Angie’s List. 40% of the people who had work done by Dix Hill's this year would not rehire them. In addition to 8 complaints filed with the BBB in the last 3 years.
2- They over charge, $150 for a $40 thermostat with their name on. I am still waiting for a plain cover, which they promised me.
3- And they throw their customers and workers under the bus. Stating a Technician who has worked for Dix Hill's for over 10 years doesn’t know what he is talking about, and leaving me without any AC in July.
Dix Hills response will be that there is no record of the service calls, as they have stated in other reviews. But I can produce every invoice for every service call in 17 years. I even have the paper that states how much I should Tip his workers (optional of course), but clearly stated.
It was very hard to write this review, but they are no longer the company they used to be if they can treat a long standing customer like this. I would not recommend them ever again.

Update: Dix Hills called October 1st, almost 3 months after the incident to say they "got the pan and the new thermostat cover". I suspect the reason for the call was for Dix Hills to be able to say they responded to the complaint and the review. But they are not kidding anybody. If it takes 3 months for a company like Dix Hills to get parts, then they have bigger problems. This call was just their way of saying they did something. This call was just an insult.

Now three years later, the braches are rotting, and I have had two rescheduled appointments to have it fixed. I specifically asked, since this was the third appointment, to have a morning appointment. I tried calling and calling and the line was busy for two hours before I got through. I'm scheduled for between 4:30 and 6:30 this afternoon. At seven-thirty the repair person called and asked if he could stop by early the next morning. I agreed to that. He may have come or not, but I did not see him. That day the office called to say they "would not bill me for the service call!" I told them this was not a service call but a correction of the initial installation. The office said the owner would have to call me.

It is now one week later, and I have not heard from the owner. My compressor is still not level and the other branch is rotting, I'm sure.

(My daughter also used them to install for her house, and she has experienced similar service problems with them.)

"Sorry to hear that you are unhappy, and from what I just read, I will say it is not normal practice to "stick branches under the condenser" sometimes we do put a small pitch on the outdoor unit to try to eliminate water and snow build up inside the bottom of the unit. I will look into this for you, and have the owner call you and resolve this issue... Thank you"

On reccomendation I called for estimate on new central air conditioner. I had all ductwork and vents in place, I thought that would make the job a little less expensive. I was told that all would have to be replaced. When the men arrived the first thing they said was, "We got a homerun here, all the ducts anvents are in". When I told them that everything had to be replaced, they said I was nuts. When I told them their boss insisted on changing everything, they relented and put in all new.
Last week I noticed a leak in my ceiling. I climbed into the attic thinking it was a roof leak; it wasn't! One of the ac drain lines had dropped off the unit and water was flowing onto the ceiling. Neither line had been glued in place, they were just pushed into the elbow and evidently fell out due to vibration??
I really wasn't sure when the install took place, but I figured since the drain pipes hadn't been properly installed they would come out and fix it. I called and spoke to a receptionist, she said they would come out on the following Monday and check it out. The service call would be $150.00, I didn't feel I should pay for something they failed to do and asked to speak to the boss. She said she would have him call as soon as he returned. That was a week or so ago. No one has called since.

professional, courteous, and well mannered people. They made sure everything was working properly and showed my wife everything as well before leaving. After putting the central air unit in Larry recommended i put in an attic fan to get the hot air out of my attic which would help the unit not work as hard. He again gave me a great price and allowed me to put that on a payment plan because i didn't have the cash flow at the time. I wish there were more companies like this to work with. You call and Larry will call you back (be realistic in the summer, they are a central air company on Long Island with that has unlimited people) within 24 hours.
Bottom line Dix Hills AC is a great company that everyone should use. The 10-15 other companies tried selling me a furnace(mines 9 years old), tried saying i needed a 3.5 ton unit for a 1300 sq foot home, said it would cost 6k, etc etc.

I heard some good reviews about this place, so perhaps my experience was a fluke and you'll have better luck. However, I will not hire them again. One of our compressors stopped working. They charged me to come and identify the problem, which was perfectly acceptable. We waited a long time for some board to come in, a lot longer than they told us. A couple of weeks later when the board arrived, they replaced it and it did NOT fix the problem. However, they still insisted we should pay for the board, which they insisted we need anyway, and for their time, and to now order a different part which would apparently fix the problem. We did not use them to complete the job and I ended up calling another company. On the good side, the workers were pleasant and felt bad about the situation, but they don't own the company.

I would love to see the invoice for the work that you posted was done, your review says it was back in 2012? Can you supply us with a copy of the work invoice? Thank you"

I hired Dix Hills not because they were the cheapest, I had a quote at $12,000 and another at 14000 , but he could do the job when we wanted.

He thought the job would take 2 days, but our house was built tougher and the plan we developed took a lot longer to implement; 5 days.

After getting several estimates and being advised that the only way I could get central air in my 2 story colonial was through the closets and losing closet space, I struggle with that decision of installing ac until Larry (the owner of Dix Hills Ac told me that he could go through the walls not utilizing closet space. It was the only company that suggested after 6 estimates. , Dix Hills AC was the last estimate and was glad I called them. . I hired this company due to their expertise and professionalism and of course the price.
I strongly advise anyone getting central air air to do their research and look up the reviews on Angies list. I was given prices way out of my budget. Most of these ac units no longer have cooper tubing, with the exception of Lennox which was way out of my budget. Dix hills uses Luxaire products that still uses copper tubing. All of the other brands started using aluminium piping which is much cheaper product. Also Dix Hills Ac uses different vent system, which the will allow you to close them completely flush to the ceiling not losing any heat loss during the winter. Also the vents do not blow air directly to the floor if you stand underneath you would feel it. The vents are designed for the air flow to come out from the sides. Very unique concept.
I would highly recommend Dix Hill AC. The crew cleaned up after themselves not making a big mess. I'm looking forward using it this summer.
