He was a nice enough guy. He came in, checked the furnace for 90 + minutes, but then closed it up and told us there was nothing wrong. He said we needed to buy a new filter, and to "shop vac" out some of the dust in there. He did not put in a filter or do anything really, but then proceeded to charge us $402.

Excellent job.  They were able to install ducts to the first floor by using a corner of upstairs closets in three bedrooms.  No problems and downstairs rooms are very cool.

I'm a relatively new property manager who sought 5 estimates for a tricky boiler replacement job in a higher end historical house in the city. I was looking for price, but especially the competence of a company in terms of communication between estimator and technician--frequently a source of problems with complex older homes. The estimator they sent was really sharp, knew his stuff, and was able to correctly diagnose a complication (regarding addition of a new temp zone) where the other HVAC estimators had missed the ball. Most sales staff (estimators aren't the sharpest engineers). I was please to realize that this was not the case with the NE.  I trusted NE to assure me quality supervision for a multi day project, and so chose them to do the work. I was more than pleased with the professionalism  and service in many regards. Technicians who showed up to do the work were very good, and they left the place spotless, as I had requested. I've dealt with the other 4 biggies in the local HVAC business here and NE easily comes in first place for satisfaction. One of the things I'd mention also is I believe they communicated the viable options without regard to their profit, and then were especially forthcoming and clear about asbestos abatement that had to precede work. Two other of the "reputable" big HVAC companies failed to even mention the obvious requirement for abatement around the boiler area, which is a huge oversight in the stages of these home improvement projects. NE was helpful and ready to work with the other independent contractors schedules. All this and they still had the best price among 5 estimates!

They did a wonderful job. I would highly recommend them to anybody, their pricing, their workmanship as such. The price was well within our means. They offered us a free financing over a period of three years. I don't think they could have done any better. I would use them in the future and I would not hesitate to recommend them to anybody.

install went ok, it is the after sale help that is lacking. after the house fire, they were chosen to install new heating.  i had zone heating installed to save money. it hasnt worked properly since. now they even refuse to return phone calls, and wish to charge me a service call for something they installed and have been here to repair many times.  i dont think i should continue to pay for their sloppy install.  they should take lessons on after care for their customers instead of the glowing commercials from their president. i know i will never recomend them
Response from Northeast Mechanical Inc
"[member name removed], I am sorry that you are not happy with us, but since you placed this review, I think we need to state the facts. In May/June of 2007, we installed your system that was damaged by a fire. We also upgraded some of the components of your system and did not charge you anything additional. For the next two years, we serviced your equipment and did not charge you for any warranty items (parts or labor). The last call we have in our system was Aug/Sept of 2009. In July of 2013, you called us for a service call. We have not heard from you since 2009, almost exactly four years. I am presuming that since you did not call us, your system was working correctly. When our technician met you at your home, you indicated to him that if this was going to cost you anything you did not want him to do anything. Since the warranties on both the parts and labor had expired already (labor expired in 2009, parts expired in 2012), the call would have been a billable call. When our technician heard that you did not want us to do any work, he left your home. As far as not answering your phone calls, we did speak to you or else the technician would have never met you at your home, and since you refuse to pay for any repairs, there is no need for your original Project Manager or the Service Department to send another technician out. We were clear when we told you that the equipment is no longer under warranty and that the call would be billable, you just did agree with the answer we offered you. As you can see from our Angie’s List rating, we do take care of and service our customers. I am sorry that you are having issues with your system, but just because we installed it does not mean that there is a lifetime warranty on parts and labor. Warranties expire, and after they expire, the customer is responsible for the costs."

Very professional and informative on estimate visit. Explained system, where it would go, how it would work and why we would need the unit chosen to cool the area we were looking to air condition. Product is highly rated for efficiency.
Very clean and neat installation, inside and outside. Very courteous and punctual installers. Explained remote operation, how to change filters, etc.
Highly recommend.

On Monday night at approx 6 PM, we noticed our Thermostat calling for heat, but the indoor temp was approx 6 degrees lower than the set temp and falling.  After googling the problem, I found that the igniter was glowing, but the burners weren't lighting. I suspected a gas problem, which was more than I wanted to deal with, and we decided to call Northeast Mechanical in the morning to any extra overtime costs.  Luckily, this was in the middle of two freak back to back 55-60 degree January days in Buffalo, so we were ok waiting overnight.  The furnace was installed in August of 2007 by a local competitor (who I would not recommend), and this has been our first problem with the unit, so we decided to give Northeast Mechanical a try.  I called the next morning at approx 7:30 AM, and was given all of the rates ($99 first half-hour / $99 hour thereafter, including run time to get parts if necessary).  I agreed, and was told a tech would be out sometime during the day (I had the day off anyways, and it was not freezing out, so no biggie).  The technician (Ty) showed up at 1:30 PM, and got right to work on the unit. After approx 1.5 Hours of diagnostics, he determined it was a faulty gas valve.  Some might argue this was to long of a period to diagnose the problem, but I actually appreciated the fact that he didn't just immediately start swapping parts.  He took the time to test EVERYTHING, including electrical connections, thermostat connections, gas pressure, voltage across all of the various pressure sensors, flame sensors, etc..  When he told me he believed it was the gas valve, i was confident in his diagnosis.  Luckily the local Trane distributor had the part in stock, so Ty went and picked it up.  He was gone pretty much the exact amount of time it would've taken me to get there and back from my house, so there is no doubt he went right there, and came right back without screwing around.  Unfortunately my furnace was about 5 months out of warranty (determined by the serial number at the distributor, not Northeast), so I had to pay full price for parts, but it was only $120.  Immediately after replacing the valve, the furnace fired right up, burners and all.  He quickly checked all of the various pressures / voltages again (while I was standing there), and showed me they were within Trane's recommended ranges.  My bill came to $456 with tax, but they did honor the 10% Angie's list coupon form this site, bringing my total to $410.  Ty noted to have a sales rep contact me about installing a whole house Trane humidifier.  i will definitely use them again in the future.
Response from Northeast Mechanical Inc
"Member, Thank you for the comments (I have passed them on to Ty as well), we welcome you as a new customer. We pride ourselves on continuous employee training and stressing to our technicians to be thorough. Nobody likes call backs, especially not the customer. We will be contacting you to talk about the humidifier."

We woke up to no heat. Called this company (we had never used them before) and they said they would be able to get someone here right away. They also reviewed their rates carefully over the phone ($99 for 1st half hour, $99 an hour thereafter) to ensure that I understood them. The service technician arrived promptly. He was very professional. He  checked the furnace over, explained what was wrong and offered options in terms of what was absolutely needed and what could be left unaddressed right now. He opened the damper (see above) and then everything worked fine.
The only thing that wasn't addressed was that he said they would follow up with a written quote, in the mail, for fixing our furnace damper and for fixing the water sight glass. As of the writing of this review (1/14/13) we haven't received those estimates. I also haven't called them about those quotes.
I would definitely call them again: they were fast, professional, and got the work done. Their price might be higher than some other providers, but what you're getting in return is a service that came through quickly in a pinch.

The repairman diagnosed the problem and fixed it so I had heat on a cold, rainy Sunday.  The repairman showed up within one hour of my call.

Thank you for your past business and I hope we continue to be the heating and air-conditioning company you choose in the future."
