wanted to relate my day, yesterday, to you. there is a good story in it.  i was on my way to oneonta anticipating a quick visit to do some shopping (in the hopes that monday would be devoid of the weekend hordes) and return some stuff.  recently i put a new water pump and timing belt in car and fixed a head gasket leak, all cooling system related. with that preface, i'm heading down the highway, happy and carefree. a glance at the temperature gauge changed that instantly. the engine was overheating!  i pulled over immediately. raising the hood my heart sank. antifreeze everywhere.  what to do? to my good fortune there was a service station a short distance up the road. i have passed it hundreds of times.  when a car  loses coolant you cannot drive it without ruining the engine.  so i pull in and walk into a shop that is packed from floor to ceiling, wall to wall with cars, parts, tools and stuff!  a man, working on one car, asks, "how can i help you?"  i told him what happened and that i thought the upper radiator hose had blown.  he went out with me, looked at the hose and agreed. without any hesitation he called a supplier to see if the hose was available. it was but the auto parts could not deliver immediately.  he asked if i wanted to go for a ride and we headed off to pick up the part.  on returning he removed the old hose and installed the new hose. not a big job but here is the point of my rant i have never given this man any business. he was working on a vehicle when i entered and stopped to help a stranger in need. he could have told me i would have to wait or that he could not do it this day.  for this special service, labor and materials and trip to pick up the part he charged  $30.  i gave him a tip almost as large as the bill. with a handshake and a sincere thank you i left and finished my trip with no further trouble. i will take the time to write a thank you and enter my thoughts on angie's list. i tell this story because for me this is a true example of a random act of kindness.  i met an honest and fair man today and it was refreshing and uplifting. L H Searles Garage Corner Help Us Out  Taylor Rd & State Route 23
