The construction company, MGT Construction has just completed our +/-600 sq foot deck at our home in Southold. MGT managed the planning: We were determined to build the deck per Southold Town code using Timber-Tech composite decking and railings per their specifications. After we had the survey done Steven coordinated with their architect and liaised all building inspections. He was instrumental in all follow-ups with the town until final approval of the permit. We sourced the pressure-treated framing lumber from Amagansett Lumber and with four feet deep footings the underlying structure is solid and constructed to last 30 years, which is also the guaranteed life of the decking. MGT Construction excels in the carpentry aspect of the decking. They made sure the planks were correctly aligned and the surrounding picture frame planks were precisely fitted. This was also true as well regarding the fitting of the railings. We opted for “drink rails” and their finishing on those is superb. Our overall impression of the construction staff was that they were always courteous and friendly. We did however make the observation that the workers should pay attention to their attire, which at times was needlessly sloppy and awkward. However, they were hard workers and respectful. An electrical subcontractor had to redo work because a supervisor was not on the site. The work was corrected and promptly made without complaint. Cleanup was done in a timely manner and to our satisfaction. Having had other construction work done on homes I can honestly say, MGT Carpentry was professional and their work was excellent. I highly recommend them.

MGT Construction Corporation was everything I wanted and more. They were prompt. The work was high quality. Steve Kaplan, Mario, Steve, et al were very professional and easy to work with. Steve Kaplan was excellent in following through with everything. The price was excellent. They were very knowledgeable and understood design. After it was finished, Steve followed through on offers to do some additional work as a client courtesy.

Excellent, courteous professional

Steven and his crew are overall excellent to work with. His carpenters, painters, and electrician did terrific work and he prices his jobs fairly and very competitively. They came in on a gut renovation for all of the finish work and did a beautiful job. The house is gorgeous. Steven is a smart, creative and lovely human being who treats his clients (or this client at least!) as the most valued person in the world. He goes out of his way to help you come up with solutions or just help you get stuff done, even if it’s outside the scope of work. He’s far more of a full-fledged and fully invested partner than a hired gun. My only complaint about HomeWork, Inc. is timeliness. One often has to follow up and stay on them to make sure the project keeps moving, and even then there are too many delays. However, that flaw is overwhelmed by the many pluses of working with Steven and his team, which is why I still gave HomeWork five stars. I would hire them again in a minute – perhaps with some built-in deadline carrots and sticks – and in fact am already working with Steven on a new major project. You can’t beat the personalized, thoughtful and quality service you will get from HomeWork.

This was our first remodeling project in our home. Steven was such a pleasure to work with. He was great during the estimate process, communicating and got the project started as quickly as possible. Juan and his workers were fantastic. They were quiet, hard working and great at what they do! I couldn’t be happier with my bathroom.

There was nothing too big or small for his team, moving a staircase, adding a bathroom, adding a 14 foot deck, building a custom entry way, etc- and even though our timeline kept growing, he made sure we finished every step, and stuck with us through the end of our project. HE WAS EXTREMELY UNRELIABLE, DID MANY NO-SHOWS, HE WANTED US TO WRITE CHECKS TO OTHER SUB CONTRACTORS, AND WE ENDED UP PAYING HIM FOR WINDOWS THAT HE NEVER DID INSTALL. THE WORK THAT HE DID COMPLETE WAS JUST HORRENDOUS. A JOB THAT SHOULD HAVE TAKEN ONE MONTH WAS DRAWN OUT OVER THREE MONTHS WHEN WE FINALLY HAD TO FIRE HIM. HE DOES HAVE A LOVELY PERSONALITY THOUGH.
