Hair Salons/Barbers
$60
I?m a male ex-Manhattanite and have been a customer of  NY City?s better salons (including Sasoon and subsequently some of his graduates) for a simple mens cut. Anderson French in Croton Falls was recommended as a good place to get a cut in the lower Hudson Valley.

I am an older customer, partly balding, and prefer my hair to be cut slightly short. It is my experience that shorter hair is harder to cut in a manner that grows back in evenly and that a scissor cut is almost always more long-lasting with no surprise ?up-shoots? in the following grow back period.

I became a customer, choosing to work with an employee who provided a really excellent cut. He worked hard and took about a half hour to do a fine, well-shaped job. One day, this person was unavailable. I had a speaking engagement and I needed a cut immediately. I was ?handed off? to the owner, Stuart Anderson who also owns the James Bentley Salon in Manhattan. Generally, the ?owner? is a safe chair to be in.

I was in the owner,  Stuart?s, chair for a total of exactly  six minutes. During that time he scoured my skull with an electric clipper as if I was an army draftee. He never asked if I preferred a scissor or a clipper. When, during his rush to the finish, I asked if a scissor cut wouldn?t be more accurate and grow back without the straggler upshots I?ve experienced in chairs where a ?buzzer? was used. He mumbled something unintelligible , smirked and turned to smile at the clock with a total disregard for my question. As he started to remove the apron, I looked at the clock and noticed that I had been serviced in six minutes. I asked if all his men clients were done that fast? He smirked and walked away disinterestedly.

The cut was passable but I never went back. The service was below that of a maximum security prison barber. It was insulting and humiliating.

I share this review for the purpose of warning that sometimes, at Anderson French, the First Chair is a misnomer.
