Dec 2008
We contacted Kurt Montanye as we were completely renovating our downstairs apartment and added on a 600 square foot addition with radiant heat. We purchased from him all our flooring, including the tile for our kitchen and baths. We also purchased solid hardwood for the old section of house. Kurt explained at the time, that we should not use solid hardwood over the radiant heat. He highly recommended this BR-111 product that was guaranteed over radiant heat. We had it installed last November, 2007. When the installer came, he commented that we should not use this product over radiant heat. I said, "It is okay because Kurt checked with the manufacturer and he and they both agreed it would be okay". Within two weeks, the floor started to cup and crack. Then, the typical walk around the ashtray started. When we called Kurt, he was responsive, but hesitant on the responsibility part. First, it was an install problem but, that was ruled out. Then an expert was sent three months later to test it (by sticking holes in the flooring), his comment was that it was a moisture problem. Now it is June of 2008, and another guy came and said not enough moisture. The whole time, we are waiting to move in. So, we told that BR-111 was going to do something like repair it or provide only the material to replace it. We were told to move in and see if it lays back down. It never did. By September of this year, BR-111 said they would only refund their material cost, $2,048.09. We paid Kurt $2,816.77, not including the installer. Flooring Warehouse told us that they could only give us the BR-111 money, and not a dime more. Finally, we just wanted closure and told them to send the check. This was on October 15, 2008. We received an e-mail saying that a check would be sent, however, it is December 17, 2008 and no check has ever come. In addition, all our e-mails and phone calls have not been returned. So, we can only believe that they kept the refund money.

WE LIKE GOING THERE, BECAUSE IT IS A FAMILY OWNED BUSINESS. THE PEOPLE THERE ARE EXTREMELY HELPFUL. THEIR PRICES ARE REASONABLE COMPARED TO OTHER COMPANIES. THEY HAVE MANY MORE CHOICES THAN THE BIG BOX STORES. WE HAVE DEVELOPED A RELATIONSHIP WITH THEM AND THEY KNOW US WHEN WE WALK IN.
