Plank Road, they told me "nahhh - just the drywall up was fine".
The contractor doing other work told me it wouldn't pass inspection if I didn't... I removed the fireplace, fixed the drywall - inspite of Plank Road.
Plank Road then returned and installed the fireplace. After it was in and operational, I asked them where the "brick back" was...they said "oh that was extra". it shouldn't have been as I had purposely asked about it when I purchased this fireplace. I would not hire these people again! There was hidden costs and inaccurate information that had to potentially cause a lot of grief.
"This customer purchased a gas fireplace from us to be installed into a chase to be built by her contractor. We were contracted to "Set & Vent" the fireplace. We can also build the chase, install the gas line, and do the electrical work if required. In this case, we were not contracted to provide those services. As stated on the invoice, the customer's contractor was going to build the chase and provide the gas line and electrical service. When we arrived to install the fireplace, the chase was not ready. The gas line and electrical had not been run into the chase. We offered to run the gas and electric if she wanted, though there would be an additional charge for that. She declined to have us run them. We left and rescheduled for a later date, and we did not charge for the additional installation date and wasted man-hours. When asked about caulking the seams of the dry wall, we probably did tell her not to worry about it. We commonly silicone the seams ourselves at installation time because most customers do not have access to, or realize the difference between the high temperature silicone we use, and typical bathroom or painter's caulk. As far as the missing optional brick fireback, that was an oversight on both of our parts. We didn't realize that she wanted that option and so did not include it on the invoice. She neglected to review her invoice to ensure that what was on the invoice was what she wanted. We ordered her the fireback option that she wanted at the same price she would have paid if it had been on the original invoice, and sent a service technician out to her house to install it at no additional cost. The missing optional fireback and the gas line and electric issues could have all been avoided if this customer had simply read her invoice to ensure that the parts being ordered and the work to be performed was what she wanted. That is the reason that our invoices and estimates are itemized line by line instead of just a lump sum figure like many other companies use. We encourage everyone to read the estimates and invoices, and to ask questions if there is anything that they are not clear on."
