We were extremely pleased with the outcome and the process of working with GP Landscaping. We had selected 3 contractors unknown to us to get quotes from based on personal referrals and feedback on Angies List. All three quotes came in within 5-7% of each other. GP Landscaping was either the lowest or the middle bid, but we picked them primarily because Greg and Carol gave us the most confidence in their ability to help us think through the design aspects, which was important given the shape of our lawn and the existing patio. They were also the most professional in their approach to the project.
All aspects of the project were completed as promised. We have had alot of company this summer since installation and have gotten nothing but fabulous comments on the design and quality of the work performed. The work was completed on schedule, and Greg was responsive in getting back to us on questions, which was tough given the busy time of year. A number of mid-project alterations were made, often at Greg's suggestion, and he did not nickel and dime us on these, which was very refreshing in this area. The work crew was extremely hardworking and did a good job each day cleaning up after themselves.
It was a pleasure doing business with GP Landscaping, and we would not hesitate to recommend them to others. They will be the ones to beat for other work we may have.
The job consisted of completing the filling and grading of an inground pool that was removed last fall (with dirt that was already on the property), and then doing an overall grading of the backyard and part of one side yard with new topsoil and seed applied to provide a new lawn. The front yard was also to be treated for weed control and seeded to fortify the existing lawn. He e-mailed a quote which was reasonable for what he said he would do. I obtained estimates from other companies with price ranges all over the place, but felt the most confident going with him.
His crew arrived when they said they would, and got right to work. Greg told me he wanted to cut down some of the branches around the property to help provide more light for the lawn. These were lower hanging ones that were unsightly in some areas and in the way in others so I told him to go ahead. The trimming ended up making the back yard even nicer and more open and inviting, having the trees look much better - and the end benefit was more sun. Since he now had a lot of branches to discard and a large truck to do that, I asked him if he would be willing to take away a pile of other yard debris (old branches, other old prunings and small trees) I had at the back of the property. He was OK with that and we agreed on a reasonable additional fee since it was out of the scope on the original contract.
The rest of the work was straight forward with the grading of the property. Greg wasn't present for everything, having directed his crew as to what needed to be done. They also were courteous and professional and knew exactly what they were doing. His company had the right equipment for the job and the right amount of workers to get it done quickly. I felt confident the job was in good hands. After the rough grading, the fine grading and seeding was done. They also seeded and fertilized the existing front lawn. (Before coming to do the big job in the back, his crew came by several times to provide some weed control and fertilize the front lawn.)
Overall, I think they did a great job and I'm satisfied. The backyard is much more level than it was and the grass is filling in nicely. The front yard is looking more like a lawn again, rather than a collection of green weeds and dandelions. They made quite a difference in the look of the property and I would recommend them if you are looking for an honest, professional landscaping company.
