WM is also extremely responsive. My husband and I both work, and WM has always been entirely available to speak with us about what they are doing at our house, whether during the day or in the evenings.
Finally, WM is absolutely reliable and honest. We have never hesitated to allow them access to get into our house while we are out at work. We trust them totally.
Suffice it to say that we are very demanding, and we would never have stayed with them if they hadn't done a great job and been terrific to deal with throughout these 25 years.
Wolfram arrived promptly with one employee, all the materials he needed for the day and went right to work. They were neat, professional, polite, and did very good work. My wife and I are very happy with their work. I found them both to be very honest and trustworthy and would certainly hire them for work again in the future.
After interviewing and obtaining estimates from several highly recommended contractors, I signed a contract with Wolfram Merz for this bathroom remodeling job around the beginning of May 2013 on the understanding that he would not be available to start work for several months. Although Wolfram's estimate was not the lowest (or the highest), I thought he would do the best job and provide the most value for the money. Among other things, Wolfram was the only remodeler to provide drawings at this initial discussion stage, which was extremely helpful since the job not only involved the conversion of a bathtub to a large shower, but the enlargement of the bathroom by moving a wall adjoining a large walk-in closet. Wolfram patiently reworked the drawings several times to reflect my comments, suggestions and concerns, and impressed me with his extensive knowledge, experience, and attention to detail.
It was well worth waiting in line for the work to begin. Wolfram does all of the work himself with the help only of his assistant of 14 years (Danny, who is himself an accomplished craftsman). The job was a gut renovation, involving, among other things: removal of the existing bathtub, vanity, floor and wall tiles (including sheetrock); removal and reframing of a partition wall adjacent to a walk-in closet; plumbing work for new vanity, shower and toilet; electrical work for new light fixtures, ceiling exhaust fan, outlets and light switches; installation of a new subfloor; installation of a drain for a curbless shower area (suggested by Wolfram); installation of a custom shower seat and knee wall; installation of new water resistant sheetrock; installation of floor and wall tiles throughout; installation of additional ceiling light over shower and of an exhaust fan/light /heat combination fixture vented through the attic and roof; installation of a new cast iron steam baseboard radiator; and, installation of a new vanity, sink, faucets, shower fixtures, toilet, medicine cabinet, and accessories (towel bars and hooks, shelving, soap dishes, toilet paper holder, etc.).
Once work begin, Wolfram (and Danny) were extremely punctual, arriving each and every weekday at 8:00 am (you could set your clock by it) and working until at least 4 pm (bringing their lunch with them). The work was meticulously done, as Wolfram is a real craftsman and a perfectionist. There were unforeseen issues and problems, as might be expected for a house that was built in 1935 and a bathroom that had not been upgraded for decades. Wolfram always consulted me when appropriate before making any decisions on issues that arose during the course of the work and, for the most part, did not charge extra to deal with unexpected problems. Wolfram did not simply raise problems, but always seemed to find or propose a solution. As one small example, when the shower arm that had come with a high-end shower head seemed a bit short to be comfortable where it was to be installed, Wolfram found a perfect replacement online that night and, with my approval and thanks, had it overnighted for installation the next day.
All of the work done was of the highest quality imaginable, and Wolfram was at all times a pleasure to work with. He always seemed to have a suggestion when asked, but was never overbearing; and would gently and politely let you know if something you wanted him to do might be problematic. As a testament to the quality of the work, I have not had to call Wolfram once in the six months since the job was completed. I expect that my next call to Wolfram will be for the remodeling of my downstairs bathroom.
"I can understand that I will get a c-rating for the job I did' but as the saying goes: " You get what you pay for" I am disappointed and ask myself why I deserve a "B" for responsiveness and punctuality. I certainly don't recall being not responsive or not on time. Maybe I've been confused with somebody else Besides the job was done at least 3 years ago"
Mr Mertz was very close to his original estimate in the end
which really helped me for budgeting. He came up with good ideas
which I found to be fantastic for the final bathroom look.
He made the transition smooth for the timeframe that I was without
a bathroom .
Wolfram was always punctual and the timeline the project was completed
within the timeline that he originally said.
His pricing is very fair and he has a very transparent work ethic.
I highly recommend WM Remodeling and will be using him in the
future for other home projects. !
