Very well. Tom is more or less retired. He is a Clock Builder and used to teach clock building. He loves his work. He is really doing this work part time and works by appointment only. My clock was a little different from most - I knew that going in because I had researched this clock on line and it is not one of the common versions. Tom had to experiment a little so I know he spent more time on this than he normally would have however he charged what he said he would. He told me that it would take some time but I was not in a rush - he had the clock for maybe a week. He loves to explain things and I am the kind of person who has time for this. If you are a "hurry up and fix my clock and don't waste my time talking to me" kind of person then go somewhere else. I say this both for you and for Tom. I will certainly give him the other clock I have than needs service. I will enjoy having him tell me all about it when it's done. He is a treasure.

The clock stopped working. I know a little about antique clock works but I couldn't find the problem. It had previously been overhauled by another clock person only five years earlier (oiled etc.). I took the clock to Tom and he not only fixed the presenting problem but improved its overall condition. Everything is tighter, it keeps better time and now chimes precisely when it should (it hadn't for years).
Clock repair requires experience and knowledge. Tom has been doing this for over 50 years which says it all about experience. As far as knowledge goes, he can give you information about any brand or style of mechanical clock. He's fun to just talk to because he knows so much detail.
One last thing... He fixes cuckoo clocks. I don't just say that in case you happen to need one fixed. I mention it because they are the hardest mechanical clock to understand and repair. They have many, many moving parts that collectively have to work in a precise way. He showed me one that not only has a cuckoo but also has revolving men with one actually chopping wood when the cuckoo goes off. He fixed it... which says it all.

I called Tom from the info provided on Angie's list and we set a time for me to deliver it. (He meets clients by appointment, but seems to have a lot of availability.) He examined the "patient" and told me it should be ready by the next week. It was, at the cost he had quoted, which was less than half of what I had paid in the past to a local clock-maker. It needed to be taken apart and cleaned and unwound--I had wound it too tightly. He is well organized, gives good directions, is readily available by phone, and perhaps best of all, he clearly loves clocks! I will use him again to clean my clock regularly and I would recommend him to anyone.

Tom of Tom's Clocks was the consummate professional with superb service borne of decades of experience. He formerly had a shop in an upscale Manhattan neighborhood, but now he works out of a basement workshop in his apartment complex. No matter because this gentleman knows his trade. He diagnosed the issues with the two clocks and gave me a coherent explanation of what he needed to do to fix them. His prices are more than fair. Turnaround time was a few days. This was as straight forward and pleasant a transaction as you could want. Highest recommendation.

what a great call. tom talked me through the repair and explained as he talked. I did not need to take the cuckoo clock to him and there was no charge.

The repairman (Alex) arrived on time, discussed repairs to be made and cost. Alex completed the repairs and gave instructions for maintenance before he left. He was professional and personable. The cost was fair for the work performed. I would recommend this company to others.

Howard King owner of Tom's Clocks was contracted to clean service and repair our treasured Grandfather clock but with age and numerous family moves it just could not be made to function as it should.
Howard is very polite and knowledgeable and arrived right on time for his service call and the final replacement/repair. The service call would have cost us $150.00 and he spent close to three hours trying to get it to work properly. We allowed the clock to run on it's own for a week but it just would not work properly and we opted to just have the main working assembly replaced with new. The $600 cost included all parts and labor and the $150 was waived from the original service call.
We now have a new clock with a 2 year guarantee and the confidence that we can call on Howard for any of our other clock repair requirements.

Excellent. Craftsman who knows what he is doing. Kept clock to make sure it ran well, and then phoned for pick up.

We were very happy with Tom's Clock Repair, they did a good job. He is very friendly and thorough and spent as much time as we wanted to tell him about the clock. The price was fair.

The work was performed with remarkable efficiency and skill. We were prepared for delays (we approached Tom during the height of the year end holidays) but Tom's work was performed with great skill and speed. We undertook the restoration at our own risk, as Tom made it clear that due to its fragile condition, the clock was likely to be very susceptible to damage. Tom performed the restoration process in an incremental fashion taking care that if damage should occur, the entire clock would not be ruined. We are extremely pleased with the results - Tom is currently repairing a second heirloom for us!

Tom was punctual and a blast from the past, 50 years of experience.Showed us how to maintain our grandfather clock and the tricks of the trade. Truly a great experience. He repaired the clock oiled and reset the hammers which were way off. I recommend to anyone who wants a professional
