George and his crew showed up at 7:30 AM as promised and began working on the old driveway. They ground up the old driveway and replaced it with new blacktop. There was approximately 2,500 feet of driveway and the job was completed by noon.  The new driveway looks fantastic. Without hesitation I would use George again, his work is fantastic.

Something he did wrong and I had already paid him. He took up, not my my main driveway, but a driveway that goes from my house down to a cottage. It was really in bad shape. I don't know where he put it. He laid a new driveway. It looks perfect. He had to expand in one place and when he expanded it wasn't on the same level. It was like a ridge. I thought no that not right and then I notice that I had already given him the check. So the question was whether I should stop payment on the check or just let it go through. I decided to trust him and he came back. He was fine. I thought when the check was through you wouldn't see him again. But he did came back and correct the thing that was wrong. I let the check go through and when I saw it and it was wrong. I called him and said that's wrong and he came back and fix it. I like him. It was about $9000. It just one thing, where he corrected it when he comes back again I am going to ask him to do something just a little different so that the water could drain away. He is gonna come back and do my other driveway. He is totally reliable. Very nice, showed up on time. He gave me a price that was lower than the other 2 prices. I had got 3 prices. I had no problem.

George turns out to be not only one of the nicest contractors I've worked with but by far the best paver as well. His pricing is in line with a top notch provider and he's very knowledgable. If you need your driveway done then this is the company to use for the best result. Thanks

The driveway is approximately 2320 sq. ft.  I used Angie's list to choose 4 contractors in my area with good reputations and received proposals from each of them.  I also had discussions with each during their estimate walkthrough.  This process took place during the first week after my initial phone calls.  I was favorably impressed with several of the contractors including George Hartshorn. Two of the contractors required two weeks between removal of the old driveway plus laying the foundation for the new and the actual paving of the new driveway.  The other two committed to performing the whole operation in one or two days.  The arguments given by the two contractors who wanted to wait two weeks between preparing the foundation and the actual paving differed but seem to ultimately come down to that this gave the best long term performance in their experience.  OK, enough of the preliminaries.
George and his proposal stood out for several reasons.  He has a long history of doing this type of work;  in fact, one of the other contractors who is a dominant player in this area first worked for George.  His process is different from the others:  he has a machine that grinds up the old pavement and he then uses that to form the foundation of the new driveway.  This is key to his technique.  It eliminates the cost of waste removal and the cost and time of acquiring item #4, the typical material for the foundation construction.
The main complication was that this was a very wet spring.  The planned date for the start of the operation was postponed a couple of times.  I had no problem with this as I worried that rain would compromise quality.  So when a weather window appeared, George and his team acted.  They arrived just before 8am and were finished just after noon the same day.  
Complete job in less than 5 hours. Wow.  The new driveway is excellent..

The owner came to do the estimate, price was very fair considering the job and other estimates I had received. 
George is very amicable, but straight to the point. Concisely laid out what the estimate would cover, and approximately when he could do the job.
He was also very flexible, in that I also was DYI' ing a retaining wall and I wasn't done as soon as I thought I would be - George was able to work around that pretty easily. I waited a bit longer (maybe another 10 days or so), but that was due to me not being ready when he was first ready to start. 
Job was done very nicely, water drains properly away from the house and down to the street, and I guess is as aesthetically pleasing as an asphalt driveway can be.
Once started, job was done when company said it would be finished. 
I would also give them an "A+" for not charging extra for excavation of some stubborn tree roots found under the driveway. 
I would give them an "A-" for final clean up, as a small amount of the base material was left along one portion of one border (maybe 3 or 4 feet along one edge) but I considered that to be minor - the borders all require some backfilling and landscaping (on any asphalt driveway) to help maintain the integrity of the material.
George came by after the job was done to drop off a written instuction pamphlet summerizing the care required to keep up the driveway.
Overall, really happy with the job and George Hartshorn Paving. Would definitely recommend/ would use again.

George came out to do an estimate . Price quote was on the spot. (Most other places took anywhere from 2-14 days)
Price was good and I got the feeling he was great at his job. I was right it came out perfect.

George responded to my call for an estimate and came by the same day as he was in the area doing another job.I told him what I wanted done and he gave me a price right then. He said he couldn't do the job for two weeks as he was booked with other jobs. That was ok by me and he said he would call me when he was coming . Two weeks later George showed up with a full crew and all the necessary equipment got right to work and finished the same afternoon. He and his crew were courteous and professional cleaned up and did a great job! I would defenitley use him again and recommend him to others..

George was very polite from the beginning and was the first one to respond to me as I was looking for estimates. His price was not initially the lowest, but he was negotiable and very willing to be flexible when I came back to him with a price that would work for me. George was good about scheduling and upfront about when he could do the job. When he and his crew came, they were quick and efficient and completed the job in a little more than half a day. The work they did was beautiful and came out fantastic. The crew was very responsive to our needs and requests and they overall did a fantastic job!

Mr. Hartshorn and his employees were very professional and efficient from the beginning.  I got estimates from a number of companies, but his was the lowest, probably due to the fact that he grinds the old asphalt himself instead of trucking it to a yard and then buying back the item #4 from the yard.  No changes to estimate despite the fact that I didn't call until two months later to have him do the job.  He even leveled out the bottom of my garage (where it met the driveway) for no extra charge, even though it wasn't discussed in the estimate.  Team arrived in the morning right when they said they would, around 745 AM, and they had the job finished by lunchtime.  Driveway looks great, would definitely use this company again.
