Their knowledge was quite welcome because, just 6 months prior, I had this boiler replaced by a plumber who didn't have a clue about steam heating and what a disaster that was! For starters, he put in a boiler that was too small for the house. And it went downhill from there. The shoddiness of his work and the quality of Gramman's would be apparent even to somebody with zero knowledge of plumbing.
They keep their appointments, are super clean (floors covered, cleanup done).
The down side is the pricing. I think the overall price was ballpark, but they have this weird "plan" where you pay $460 for one year's worth of a 25% discount on all charges plus you get one boiler cleaning. So if I didn't get the plan the charge for the installation would have been ridiculously high (and I would have used another plumber). I guess the idea is to encourage you to call them again. But if seems that they start high and the plan just brings it down to normal. Also, they charge for estimates. This charge is later refunded if you have them do the work.
The charge for the backflow test was about $300 for 10 minutes of work. Other plumbers do it for $75, I later discovered.
