Our dog had trouble walking this weekend, he was a lot of pain. We thought he was going to have to have surgery. We took him in and his back was out of alignment. They did chiropractic and acupuncture care on him and he is all better. They are a little bit more expensive but I think it is worth it for the quality of care you receive. They are really good.

The staff and doctors are great. We have had no problems working with the folks at Pumpkin Hill over the last 8 months. It is not the fanciest facility, but it is clean and you can tell that they really care about their animal clients.

Dr. Mathes and his team of ladies are AWESOME. The most reasonable, level headed, kind vet you will ever meet.
I have brought many personal and foster animals here over the years and I cannot say enough about how Dr. Mathes operates this clinic. It is in an older home that has been turned into a clinic. It is always very comfortable in there, incense burning, calming music playing, water falls in exam rooms.
Dr. Mathes is very open minded. I treat my animals (mostly) holistically, and feed raw food, and it is very difficult to find a good vet who is on board with alternative animal husbandry. Dr. Mathes is a gem. He is very reasonable, no price gauging, and no run-around. You get an honest answer, every time.
When My dog was sick with cancer, Dr. Mathes allowed me to take him back to be x-rayed so he would be more comfortable. Everything is open doors. It's not like other vets where they hide animals in the basement/and quot;in a back roomand quot;. YOU, the owner, have control of the situation. You see where the animals stay when they go there. It's always 100% clean and calm in the back room where surgery animals stay. No one is scared, no one is barking.
Dr. Mathes did surgery on my grandma's dogs' foot when he had to have a toe removed. Other vets in the Rochester area quoted this surgery at $900-$1,800. Dr. Mathes did it for under $300. The prices are ridiculously reasonable and between that and the way your animal is treated there makes it absolutely worth the drive.
Dr. Mathes is VERY knowledgeable about alternative medicine as well as allopathic medicine. He does chiropractic on my dogs, acupuncture and thorough exams. When I have gone to other vets, the vets don't do full exams sometimes. Dr. Mathes checks every inch of my animals' bodies, looks in eyes, ears, skin, teeth. My animals are NEVER stressed here- in fact they love going- at the end of each visit, they get a spoonful of chicken baby food:)
The ladies- Karen is the best, she is always so compassionate and you can tell the girls who work there TRULY love animals. They are knowledgeable about integrative medicine and have a great relationship with Dr. Mathes that makes you feel comfortable when you're there.
I just can't say enough about this place. Dr. Mathes is available to his patients for after hour emergencies and will even do home visits. When my dog died, I got a handwritten note from the staff and Dr. Mathes.
When we walk into PHV, my animals are greeted with smiles and love- I have used MANY vets in the Rochester area over the past 10 years, and I would ONLY recommend going to PHV. They are 100000000% worth the 25-35 minute drive from downtown Rochester.

Excellent, Went here for a second opinion, and ended up transferring to Pumpkin Hill. We will definitely be back. Very fair, very thorough. Very impressed by the Dr.

Very well. He provided the shots needed and then checked one of the horses for stiffness in her hind leg. A very caring and knowledgeable individual.
