SUMMER STREET CAT CLINIC

Veterinarians, Animal Boarding Kennels, Animal Grooming,

About us

The original Summer Street facility in Buffalo was established, by Dr. Marcia Levine, in 1981 as the first Western New York veterinary practice devoted exclusively to the special needs of cats. Our suburban office, opened in 1987, moved to its permanent home in Getzville in 1993. At both locations, cats and their owners find surroundings which promote healing and well-being while limiting unnecessary fear and apprehension.

Call to set up an appointment and there was one available that day. When time came to pay I was charged a $35 dollar fee on top of regular visit fee. If an appointment was available (which showed available on line) why are you charging an additional “emergency” fee to be seen same day. Total predatory pricing. This is not about the money as my bill was $1300 it’s about taking advantage of people. I called to question the fact and the receptionist agreed and said she would pass along to manager and of course never heard back. Will be sure to let everyone know how your compassion is just monetary.

I love them and they love my Sissy (cat). she goes boarding there when I have to go away. They are always there and they are always nice. They call me up periodically to find out how she is and where she it. That's what I like. When we go away I always call and ask, "How's Sissy?". They tell me what she does and how she it. My cat is a talkative cat. She talks back to you. She's 14 years old. I've been using them for 4 years.

Tend to be overpriced and push services that may or may not be needed (eg a heart mummer in my cat that no one else found and they didn't hear the next time I was in-after urging very expensive testing; vaccines for a old, sick cat who had very little time left). Typical wait time for an appointment is half an hour after scheduled time.

All of the animal doctors on staff, and the vet techs are terrific. They take their time giving my cat the time that is needed to perform whatever it is the he was brought in for. All of the staff is compassionate and caring. I had a cat with an extensive health history and they were able to either restore his health or give me the training needed to make his life comfortable for many years. They specialize in felines and that is worth every penny.

They saw him and gave him a prescription for some kind of drops in case it got really infected but it never did. They are a little expensive but when it's the pet, it's alright as long as they are better. We don't always have to wait when we go there but it is so unpredictable with animals. They are not twiddling their thumbs or anything, they are moving along as fast as they can.

My sister and I used the Cat Clinic for years. I like the fact that they only deal with cats, no other animals. I took my cats there for over ten years. They were always very professional, knowledgable, understanding and kind; especially when it came to an emergency. I've since moved and no longer use them, but I would highly recommend them to anyone. They can be a little pricey, but being that they specialize only in cats, that is to be expected. Dr. Marcia Levine especially, is great.

very cat friendly - used the getzville location. got a huge estimate for dental work (around 1,000) for a couple of extractions. nice group. i've used several vets in the past and this one is just fine. location is perfect for my mother.

They are very thorough. I had taken my cat to another veterinary clinic and they were not able to solve the problem so I took them to Summer Street and they were able to solve the problem. It was an inflamed paw. We have a couple of cats. They investigated the lifestyle of the cat and other environmental issues that may have been contributing to the problem. They looked at other things beyond the obvious. It was not cheap but it was fair. They were not the least expensive but they were competitively priced.

I took Poofy to the Cat Clinic from 2005 to 2009. For most of that time we saw Dr. Otterson only. He is kind, patient, and thoughtful, and Poofy seemed to hate him less than she hated other doctors. She had chronic renal failure, and then developed hypertension, and was fifteen years old at the end. Her care became very complex, with several medications given on various schedules, and Dr. Otterson always looked for alternate ways of treating her and respected my desire to have her at the vet as little as possible. He also tolerated very well my tendency to worry and ask many questions. When I finally decided she was at the end, he was very kind to both of us and worked within the solemnity of the occasion without making it worse than necessary. In general I always found the Clinic staff to be helpful and responsive. There are several vets at the Clinic, and there are some I liked and some I did not like. If you can get one you like I think it's worth it to work with their schedule, as there are two locations and the vets are in different places on different days. Veterinary care is expensive, and during the last two years of Poofy's like I spent thousands of dollars at the Clinic, but I don't think their pricing is out of line with other vets in the area. When there was a way to save me money on pills, for example, they would offer it to me. I recommend this place to every cat person I know.

I've been going to the same vet since 2006, and he is fabulous! He has been very compassionate and understanding about my cat's situation, and also my situation as the owner. He gives great advice, and has been very innovative with medications. Also, the doctors there work together, and run ideas by each other all the time.

I have used this business for 20 years. My favorite attribute is that they specialize in cats. I chose them initially as they were close to my home. I continue to use their services as they are friendly, knowledgeable, and cat lovers. The cost is based on the services for both cats.
