DAAC and I thought original wall was concrete block and would come down easily. The block had been filled in and was solid. Upon realizing this on demolition day,DAAC should have realized and advised me this project was beyond his level of expertise. (Prior to his arrival, the company I hired to replace porch and walkway had come and gone in 11/2 hours to demo without touching a bush or damaging anything and removed debris. The difference being they had the equipment and knowledge of the job.)
In the course of demo by DAAC, they damaged the foundation of our home. (There was a crack which had been repaired, but now foundation pushed in.The mason to repair it was 1,000 dollars, my expense. I asked DAAC if they were insured, by they didn't respond. They didn't feel damage was their fault.By the time the wall was down, the edges of driveway were chewed up along both sides.
Not only was the wall crooked, but they put sand between wall and driveway to cover damaged edges. Since our driveway slopes, the first rain had sand running down.
In the end, I had to hire another company to take the wall down and rebuild it. (At which point I realized DAAC had put no stone behind wall for drainage. That is a basic for a functioning retaining wall.)
I also had to have the driveway replaced!
DAAC told me prior to beginning of project I may lose a few bushes. Landscaping on both sides of wall was destroyed, along with most of the lawn. (Haven't replaced that yet)
At our parting DAAC and I agreed I would pay him for the bricks, sand and stone. He failed to mention that the remaining bricks for wall had not been paid for.AND there was no stone! To get bricks from Thruway Builders, I paid for them in
addition to a delivery and pallet charge. This project has cost an additional 16,000 and I haven't replaced landscaping and grass yet.My daughter has a complaint about them but for me they are fine and my daughter always has something to say. I am happy with them. Everything for me is fine but I give them a ?C? because my daughter has always something to say. She is very picky but I am not picky for this. I like them. They call me when they will start again and I will hire them again.
