I am thoroughly disgusted with my experience from Clean Sweep Chimney & Heating Service.
I contacted this vendor because I was getting water leaking into my basement along the wooden joists under my fireplace. They sent a representative who went up on the roof and inspected my chimney. I was told I needed to have the chimney chase cover replaced and was given a quote of $706.88 including tax. They required a deposit of $100.00 which I paid by credit card. The cover was measured by the representative and ordered, which took 12 days to come in. The same representative came with an assistant to remove the old chase cover and install the new one.
As the installer worked, I could see that the cover did not fit, although he tried to FORCE it to fit and actually damaged it, yet he continued to play with it. I asked him to stop because the problem was obvious, which he did. He removed the new chase cover, reinstalled the old, one and left in a huff. When he removed the old one I could see that it was rusted on top, but not rusted through to cause the leakage problem I was having. In other words, THERE WAS NOTHING STRUCTURALLY WRONG WITH IT!
What he should have done was tell me the problem was NOT the chase cover, but something else, and find out what the actual problem was that caused the water leaking. The representative KNEW that when he originally came to inspect the problem. He went ahead anyway and sold me a product that would not fix the problem. That was not only totally unethical, it was FRAUD. If the new chase cover did fit, I would have been stuck with it and a totally unnecessary expense. I was given a full refund the next day on my credit card, and was told ?we don?t fix leaks.? So I am back to square one with the original problem.
