I started out using Purina Care Insurance(they were great) and was transferred to 24 hour pet watch when Purina sold their business to 24 hour. Unfortunately my older lab developed serious health issues 18 months ago, passed away 6 months ago and I submitted many claims. They routinely would deny claims based on information omitted from the vet and when I resubmitted these claims with the information they claimed was missing they would reject them again. I couldn't understand their rejections until finally reaching someone in customer service who explained the resubmitted claims were rejected outright because they had previously been submitted(ignoring the fact that they had been rejected) . Although nothing in their documentation tells you this nor do their rejection letters explain that when you resubmit a formerly rejected claim you are supposed to specifically identify it so they know why you are resubmitting. Due to the ongoing struggle to get my claims paid I continued to get charged for the insurance and am now struggling to get a refund of monthly insurance I paid for after my pet passed away.

They're fantastic, they reimbursed us right away, I recommend them. They do the insurance as well and they're great, theirs insurance and dog chipping service as well. Its been fantastic. If you do have to call the 800 number, they respond quickly, they come on quickly, they deal with whatever it is, like the first claim, I didn't know what I was doing and they were extremely helpful. Everything we've done, we got reimbursed, the Doctors, the procedure, the prescriptions, everything, it has been fantastic.

My dog recently ingested a large amount of cotton and had to be taken to the emergency vet. 2 days and 10 x-rays later he was released after costing me $1200. I received Sheltercare as a free option when I adopted him from the Humane Society and decided to continue with their service monthly, i've been with them for 2 years and pay $20 every month. I sent Sheltercare all of my dog's medical records with the claim form after the ingestion incident. A couple days later I received confirmation via phone call that they have received the claim and it was then put into processing. I called a couple weeks later to check on the status and talked to a very professional man who told me exactly how backed up they were and when to expect notification of the completion of the claim. A couple weeks passed from the phone call, but the next communication from them was a check in the mail for the $1200 minus my $100 deductible. A letter was included outlining the breakdown of payment. I'd say overall it was about 5 weeks from the time the claim was submitted until I received the check. I was very pleased with the process and think it's a great investment for anyone with any sort of pet.

Sometimes they are responsive and sometimes they are not. I am not entirely satisfied with the type of customer service that they provide. It is just in general. Their claim service is a little slow. Sometimes they required more detail than I think that they need. I think that it is a little high. I will continue to use them for my older dog, but when I get a new pet, I will not use them.

Our experience is that some of the categories are limited and we have maxed out some of the health categories. There's very good about tracking claims, responding to claims and paying claims. Which is the reason we keep them specially for a dog, pretty expensive policy. I have been thinking about canceling that policy, when we first got the policy when our dog was still a puppy, 11 years ago. And every time I tell them that I wanted to cancel, he would have an injury that has encountered potentially substantial cost and the insurance company has paid enough of the time to make sure the policy was worth. Some people might find that a little expensive and choose to self insure. It's the same company that you would do the same thing to yourself, you can choose different kinds of policy that cover different things, different customer.

I haven't used them in a long time but the security is knowing that if something horrible happens it won't be a horrible cost.

24PetWatch supply an R/F ID device that goes inside the cat. They implant it behind the cat's ear. If the cat is lost, stolen or injured, the Animal Control or Veterinarian can scan the R/F ID Device and get the medical history for the animal, and find out who the owner is immediately. I think the price is very reasonable. You can update your cat's health information on line. I've never had any problems with them. If I bought another pet animal, I would get the ID chip put in my new animal.

It took them forever to answer on a claim I filed. It's incorrect information. There making it based on something else. The kind that I bought was Accident. They put the claim that wasn't caused by an accident under that and then said it wasn't covered. The price is cheaper than others.

They're really good. They have come through for me in a couple of occasions and saved us a lot of money. They are very nice people to deal with. We had a cat a couple of years ago that had liver cancer and we went to probably one of the best veterinary hospitals in San Diego. They had to remove the margins where there was cancer until basically there's nothing left. They totally got the cancer out and basically cured her and I called the insurance company because the bill was close to $5000 and they paid close to $3500. The insurance was great. I was totally happy.

We have not had to use the service as our dog has stayed healthy. I spoke with them initially when getting the service and they were very professional.

The trouble is that I haven't had to use them yet. Sometimes, they're hard to get a hold of. Their wait times are unacceptable. What I like about them is their indoor pet plan. I'm not totally excited about them. For my situation, I would use them.

They pay quickly when I submit a claim. I think the pricing is reasonable.
