No response to my calls. I have a small garden and wanted some minor landscaping done along with advice on a beloved old apricot tree.

It is wonderful. Tom took everything apart made a design for the garden, planted trees, used the tree trunks that were an eyesore and all the plants were moved and replanted. In September I had them come over to plant some things that I had imported from Pennsylvania and to winterize the garden. Again, I have enjoyed the garden in the summer and it looked wonderful with all the snow. It was worth every penny that I spent.. In fact I have already call them to do some additional planting and get the garden in shape for the summer.

I had an excellent experience with Urban Green City Gardens. They were
incredibly responsive to my initial inquiry. The owner came to my home
to survey the garden space we wanted re-imagined and gave a quote and
concept to me promptly. He was very collaborative, clear and
professional. They were very responsive - and even had to change the
date, but gave us ample time to change things on our side. We had a few
considerations not just ascetics - such as kids, a dog, basketball
hoop, etc.
The owner and his crew were there personally for the
day, were incredibly pleasant and hard working. The end result of our
not-so-pretty- back yard, turned out to be a lovely happy garden! We
were delighted with the end result - we have asked for a further quote
for our front stoop and would recommend them to friends and family!
I originally found them on AL (my first vendor for any service) and am
very pleased. We had seen a few other gardening / landscape companies
and had quotes from them, but Urban Green City Gardens was really the
best.

The work as I said earlier could not have gone better. Tom came promptly at 9:00am and started right to work. He finished a huge amount of work in 4 hours. As I stated before, this was a fabulous job and we will use Urban Green City for all our landscaping work in the future.

We have a back yard in SoHo, Manhattan, which was looking pretty rough.

It's a cement yard, and the previous tenants had tried to make a garden by making a rough enclosure out of breeze blocks and filling it with soil. As a result, our yard was dominated by an ugly dirt pit that just attracted weeds and rats. The rest of the area had fallen into disrepair as well.

Tom came out and gave us a lot of great ideas for how the space could be transformed, and a flat rate estimate for the first step, which was cleaning out the space.

The next week, he came as promised and finished a massive job in just half a day. The breeze blocks turned out to be cemented in place, so he had to take a sledgehammer to them - a lot more work than I think he had anticipated. By the time he was finished, the weeds and dirt were entirely gone, all the junk was cleared away, our garden furniture was neatly arranged, and it looked like it had been transformed by magic.

I am looking forward to bringing Urban Green City Gardens back in the spring to do a landscaping job and really turn our space into an urban retreat.

Such incredibly professionalism, friendliness, hard work, and results! I can't recommend them highly enough.

I called and left a message. They did not call back, so I called again and spoke with Tony. I told him I needed landscaping work done at my house, and gave him the address. I had been advised to check the credentials of the people I used by my friend, who is a master gardener. When I asked Tony what credentials he had, he became rude and flustered, and refused to answer my question except to say that he had lots of clients. He said that he would give me some references, but then said he was too busy to do that. I then tried to make an appointment, and even though I had previously given him my address, when I told him where I lived (Ditmas Park area of Brooklyn), he said they didn't go to that part of Brooklyn. He said they only served Brooklyn Heights and downtown Manhattan. That should be indicated on his Angie's List page, since it says "Brooklyn and Manhattan". I don't think someone should be offended when you ask what training they have to perform the services you're hiring them for, but Tony clearly was.
Response from URBAN GREEN CITY GARDENS

"The correct response to this inquiry was that we serve "Brownstone" Brooklyn and Manhattan. Brownstone Brooklyn being the residential neighborhoods surrounding Downtown Brooklyn. This is also mentioned on our website. When I placed Ditmas Park and did realize that this was not part of Brownstone Brooklyn, but outer Brooklyn, I replied that we did not serve this area. We cannot logistically serve the entire city. -- I should have been clear from the onset of the phone call I received from this person. My fault. ------ Our website shows dozens of examples of our work both residential & commercial - from Brownstones & Penthouses to Luxury Hotels & Restaurants - Small Apt. Terraces to Modest Tree Pits. -- When asked for references we can provide multiple.. I will just need a day to send the appropriate client list pertaining to the type of design/maint. needed."

Tom responded quickly to our first phone call, and arrived punctually at the determined time. He worked swiftly, carefully and neatly, and was very pleasant and professional. We plan to use him again to plant evergreens in the spring, and for general yard maintenance. (He arranged for another nursery to cart away the trash bags, and we paid an additional $150 to them directly.)

The workers were excellent and the price was fair. But it was torture getting an appointment. I called again and again and left messages for the appointment person, who didn't call me back over four weeks. I emailed, no luck. I finally left a message for owner, and then I got a call from the appointment person. Once the appointment was made, it was twice cancelled within hours of the time. But once the arborists finally materialized, they did excellent work, were thoughtful, helpful, and cleaned-up. All they need to do is get their customer service act together.

Everything went well; Tommy was friendly, professional and accommodating, easy to work with and diligent from beginning to end. I would definitely recommend him. My only areas of disappointment: (1) the final lay-out of the patio was a little bit different than I had envisioned; (2) one of the plants that he planted died (I would have been better off letting it remain potted); but these things happen. Overall, I think he did very good work and despite the items mentioned, I would work with him again.

Tommy arrived just when he would to give an estimate on installing an automatic watering system and helping me maintain my plantings on my rooftop garden. He is a single practitioner, very reasonably priced, reliable, and a lovely man. I will definitely use him throughout the year as it becomes necessary and I can wholly endorse him.

We made the appointment, he came, took photos, talked about what he thought would work. He then emailed me a plan and cost estimate. He came with an assistant and they worked from early morning to evening and had everything done in one day. He ordered from a local nursery and they made a couple of deliveries that day. He came back in late August to do some pruning, see how things looked and make some suggestions for possible changes/improvements for the following (this) season. He is coming back next week. My one suggestion would be to call early for service, ie, for this year you are probably too late. I would contact him during the winter to set up an appointment for spring planting.

It's really beautiful. I think the price was excellent. The designer has a very aesthetic eye, he came in and installed a garden that was self maintaining.
