Every portion of the work executed by Universal Renovation in my home has to now be replaced.  My high end  floors which they installed are cracking and coming up do the lack of stabiliizing the floors prior to install.  The paint is peeling off of the walls and the doors according to my new contractor must be rehung as they were installed off center.  I have to go through additional expense to undo and then redo all that Universal Renovation executed.  In addtion, they charged me tax on labor which is illegal and has since been refunded by the NY State Tax Board.   I have a judgement against Universal Renovation that was awarded to me in small claims court that they have made no effort to pay on.    Do not use this company, they do not stand by their work which is substandard at best.

This was an extremely difficult experience. This as my first time hiring a contractor. I was pressed for time and this was the first contractor that committed to executing all of the combined necessary work. The price was quoted and after contracts were signed and my deposit was received, I was advised that the price would be higher due to something that wasn't noticed at the time of the bid. In additon, they tried to substitute substandard paint for the agreed BM paint that I had paid for. The foreman was almost NEVER in site. Due to this damaged doors were signed for without inspection and the baseboards were installed without burying the cables which I was later forced to pay for a reinstall (another $1000 outside of my original quote) They installed the damaged doors and only agreed to replace them when I held the last of my payment. In addition, they scratched my brand new floors and attempted to fill in the scratches with non matching wood filler. They showed no respect for my property and took no responsibility for the damage they created. I requested that this foreman no longer work on my project and was told that this could not be accomidated. I had to take 2 days off of work to be on site so that the work would be completed without further damage and in a somewhat satisfactory manner. In the end, they took approx $250 from the approx $15,000 total cost for all of the damage and challenges to the work. There were a multitude of additional issues. These were the most upsetting.
Response from universal renovation
"You could never be happy with any work we have finished over 1000 jobs in new york well i guess you cant make every body happy. If we have learned about the problems you were reporting after we finished your job we would have fixed for you , but since you did not pay us in full you were too ashammed to call us back, well you should pay your sevice providers so you could call them back if any thing is wrong, further more if you buy bad products and expect them to be perfect then again that is your problem. i hope you became a smarter customer for your next project, next time try not to scream at your contractor and pay your balance in full.
