I would not recommend Top Coat Painting to anyone who expects clean and precise work. Mike and his crew left me with a headache and the need to hire someone else to fix all the mistakes they made on my exterior paint job. I trusted mike to paint my new house. Every day was a new problem. He got paint splattered all over new newly painted deck. When I questioned him about it he said he had to use a lot of paint to get into the groves of my wood shingles. I asked him why he didn't use a tarp? His worker left paint drops all over my windows . They did repaint the deck with the left over paint I had. When I went to look at it after they "fixed" it they missed many areas of paint splatter and I had to show them the areas to repaint. They did not put the slider screens they removed back up when they were finished on the deck until I asked them to. When I asked mike to fix these issues he had many excuses for the sloppy work. He told me that I was too picky. I don't see how wanting a professional paint job with out all the mistakes as being picky. He told me not to make him nervous because he doesn't do well with being nervous and will make even more mistakes. His worker Rick laughed at me when I became emotional over the sloppy work. Mike couldn't understand why I was upset that they didn't paint the return the color of the trim and told me I was again, being picky. He painted the trim area that returns to the house the same color of the house instead of the trim color. ( I have many picture) they did paint it the trim color when I asked them too but it was done sloppily. I excepted clean straight lines where the trim meets the house. The person who came to correct it was appalled. When I asked Mike why the stained looked so bad in certain areas he told me that the paint would only look as good as the wood it's on. I excepted the bad areas of sun damage and nail holes etc to be prepped prior to painting. It's like if someone painted a wall inside without fixing the holes and nail holes. I had to ask them to remove all the rusty nails that the prior owner had all over the front of the house. They were going to leave them on and he looked perplexed that I wanted them removed. I asked them to spackle the large nail holes near the garage. They originally just painted over them. Mikes worker Rick assured me that he would spackle the nail holes and when I got home that day .... You guessed it. Not done! You could see the holes. When I looked at the painted shutters before they were put back up, The back of the shutters were completely covered in spider eggs and webs. The person who fixed the job told me that when those eggs hatched they would show drops down the house. I had to clean them all myself. I never excepted that they wouldn't prep the wood before they painted it. One of his guys, Adam, scraped the entire front of the house in the opposite direction of the grain. Mike told me that the old paint had to be removed. I had a zip zag pattern across every shingle in the front. Mike has to hand sand it to make it look normal. Mike called me on the morning of the last day he was painting and insisted that I pay before they finished the job. I told him that I wanted to see the job done first before I payed, He keep asking me to pay even before the job was done. I told him I wanted to see the job done first . He wasn't happy that I wanted to see the finished job first. He also tried to get me to give him even more money because he has to put another coat on the side of the house with the sun damage. Mike knew that I got higher quotes for the job . I now realize that you get what you pay for. However, with me being a single mother and on a budget I trusted that the job would look good. Mike told me to use a solid stain instead of paint so with him being the expert I said ok. The solid stain he choose was not a good option as the new color looks awful on the areas of the house that were sun damaged. I asked him to put another coat on those areas. He was going to leave it the way it was. You could see the old color through the new stain. I trusted him to do a job best suited for the state of my wood. I have learned the hard way to not take the lowest quote. In the end I could've saved a whole lot more if I hadn't chosen Top Coat Painting. I have many pictures to prove all of this to be true. Mike Depaola tried to convince me that he's bent over backwards to work with the issues. If I hadn't pointed out the numerous mistakes and multiple areas of sloppy work he wouldn't have had to bend at all. I just wanted a profession job with clean edges and nice work.

Fred is friendly, reliable, straight forward and easily reached by phone whenever necessary. He did work on a time and materials basis with an approximate estimate for the total cost of the job and came in at that estimate. His lead painter, Ali, is a master craftsman -- a very skilled, efficient, reliable and trustworthy worker. He works very clean, is able to skim coat to a smooth finish without sanding which avoids a lot of mess! He keeps cleaning work area throughout day keeping any dust to a minimum. He is a very neat and careful painter. I could not have been happier with the job! It was performed to a very high standard of quality, on time, at a very reasonable price by a skilled craftsman who takes pride in his work and who it is a pleasure to have in your home.

Moving is a stressful experience and having to find a good painter is even more stressful. This painter was referred to me by my previous superintendent. The job started on the 6th of February and ended on the 8th. He was on time everyday, he scraped the old paint off wherever it was needed, plastered where it was necessary as well and he always cleaned up after himself. I never had to deal with a mess. I explained exactly what colors I wanted and where; then he took care of the rest. He was incredibly professional and honest. I didn't need to watch over him, which gave me peace of mind. In the end I was v
ery happy with the finish product. The apartment looks beautiful. I would certainly use him again and I recommend you try him out.

He services areas in Brooklyn such as Coney Island, Sunset Park, Bay Ridge, Clinton Hills, and Park Slope.

He is a fully insured painter.
