Tom Towles is truly a master carpenter. I had a time sensitive project and needed to have a wall built and some shelves installed in a complicated area that was not aligned correctly. The last person that I hired to do the work messed the job up and I had to let him go and start from scratch. Tom responded immediately. He priced me a very fair quote and finished the project beyond my expectations. Tom is smart, thoughtful, creative and concise. Everything you want in a carpenter. A true professional. I wound up keeping Tom on for a few more days to hang some doors as well as a bunch of other carpentry related projects I needed completed. I highly recommend Tom Towles for all your carpentry needs. This was an unexpectedly huge and complicated project. Tom was part of a core three-person team and worked on the job from start to finish, and helped turn an apartment that was in worse shape than we thought into a beautiful home for our family. Tom's work was great. He worked well with the other crew-members on big stuff, and his own individual work (especially on trim, door framing, and reconstruction) was very high quality. I appreciated that he was also thoughtful about the project and the aesthetics we were going for. Tom was also a pleasure to have around. He is personable and has a good sense of humor.
We plan eventually to redo the kitchen and baths in our apartment, and hope to bring him back in for that work, too.

We were very satisfied. He was very, very good. He was extremely diligent, honest and said exactly what he was going to do and did it. He came exactly when he was supposed to come. He was prompt, efficient and reasonable. I really cannot say anything negative about him.

Response from Tom Towle Carpentry

"Thanks for your review of our work, we always try to make things better. We did tell the customer that the work was going to go over the initial estimate, and they agreed to it. What we didn't do is follow it up in writing, which was our mistake. We regret that the customer was not pleased about all aspects of the work."

Response from Tom Towle Carpentry

"We really appreciate this customers feedback, as there is always room for improvement. In all fairness, we did show up twice to take measurements, and sent an estimate via email. We were unaware that it didn't go through, as the customer did not return our phone calls to confirm receiving it. We will have to do better next time."

We needed the repairs done in a hurry and Tom fixed the bathroom the next day.  He came back a few days later to fix the stoop.  He was courteous and professional and fair in his pricing.

During my Self fix-up of my brownstone I bought the 13 pieces to assemble a fluted casing surround at an interior vestibule door, also some 1x6 simple casing for around a door to the cellar and 14' - 1x10  and assorted molding to trim the side of  a stair. All this was previously covered in cheap wood paneling. With time running out I needed a carpenter and found Tom. He assembled the 13 pieces perfectly, re-hung the door, bought and installed weather stripping, etc. much more than I new how to do. For the simple casing around the cellar door I asked if he could router some sort of tasteful edges on it to liven' it up a bit, he selected a nice profile that worked beautifully. The unwieldy stair casing & trim was installed perfectly & he added a small quarter round that topped it off. I asked if he could also sheet rock in some radiator pipes at the entrance and said he could but would rather do it in wood. He did it in a fine fashion. In talking with him he told me a deck building story or two. I highly recommend Tom and recommend you delve into his knowledge base for ideas.

I had been planning to use a pre-build door and just have it installed, but the doors at home depot and Lowe's did not look all that great and the workmanship was way  less than top notch.  I decided to have Tom (who I have used before) custom build the door.  As in the past, Tom took great pride in his work and produced a high quality door that was an exact fit and was attractive.  He spent a lot of time working out a mechanism with extra wooden and metal parts so that the outside iron gate moves in unison with the wooden screen door when it is opened and closed.  This is not a feature that existed before and Tom suggested that it could be done and he executed on it extremely well.  This is a guy who enjoys a challenge and gets a kick out of solving a problem with his own well-thought out solution.  I could not be more happy with the finished product... excellent workmanship at a fair price.

Tom redesigned the fence so that it was much stronger and much more attractive than my previous fence. He essentially built it with vertical rails and it has lattice work boxed in on the top third. (We have climbing vines in flower beds on that side of the deck and we wanted them to be able to climb the fence. The work took several days to complete. He takes real pride in his work and he used the best materials and paid a lot of attention to the details. I had planned to spend less on a simpler solution, but I could not be more satisfied. I definitely got my money's worth. He is a very skilled craftsman and a nice guy. I recommend him highly.
