The owner of this company, Savvas Meitanis, is extremely dishonest and has acted criminally. He began work on an extension project in my backyard in January 2011, which was then halted after he left a portion of my exterior wall exposed to the outside elements during demolition directly causing two pipes to freeze and burst. Following extensive damage to my basement, he showed some decency in replacing ceiling tiles and laundry room cabinets even after complaining that a design flaw in my home created the situation (no mention by him that the home's interior was left exposed to the freezing cold temperatures). When the project resumed in April 2011 to wait for the weather to improve, he dragged his feet for three months completing only the foundation cement slabs, and wooden framing. He demanded payments for 85% of the entire project "as per the contract," and his attendance was less than twice per week. We naively complied with the next payment (though we had already provided him with over $100,000) when he claimed the most recent payment was necessary for additional materials for the internal work and roofing/siding. Following a payment of $32, 000., he never returned to finish the project leaving the entire framing exposed and no internal work completed. He made excuses as to scheduling difficulties with the electrician and lack of roofing materials, on order, etc. After multiple phone calls, and his clear attempt to stall allowing the check to clear, Mr. Meitanis stated that he has declared bankruptcy and that my "project put him under," even though all payments were made on time and in full. This bankruptcy statement followed after 14 days of our last payment. Where did my money go so quickly? Also, he asked for additional monies for upgrade in hurricane resistant windows and stated that the window payment must be made in full since they were special order items. Interestingly, now that we have contacted the window vendor, he has left us with a $15,000 balance even though this was paid in full. Clearly, this man is a criminal and has committed grand larceny. We have retained an attorney and also contacted the Suffolk Dept. of Consumer Affairs. No one should ever utilize this individual given his fraudulent methods of conducting business.
Description of Work: The owner of this company, Savvas Meitanis, is extremely dishonest and has acted criminally. He demanded payments for 85% of the entire project "as per the contract," and his attendance was less than twice per week. Ten weeks for ONLY a cement foundation and wooden frame of 1000 sq. ft. Nothing else except a lot of complaining of 'how complicated the job was.'" Of course it was complicated for a person with less intellectual faculties than a moron.
