The bill for this repair totaled $328.09 and was paid when the car was picked up after the work was done.
When the car was driven at highway speed for the first time after the repair, on 8-23, a noise came from the same wheel that was repaired, after only a few miles of driving.
When I applied the brakes, the brake pedal went down all the way without any effect on the car. The brakes
had entirely failed. This happened on the Verrazano Bridge, in the late afternoon, with considerable traffic.
Fortunately, I was able to reach the side lane and stop the car using the emergency brake. The car was
removed from the bridge service plaza by Port Authority tow trucks and had tobe towed away. It is only by good
luck that a catastrophe did not occur.
IT WAS A TERRIFYING EXPERIENCE.
The tow truck operators from the Port Authority showed methat the entire brake caliper had fallen off from the wheel. The brake pads hadfallen out and brake fluid was spewing out each time the brake pedal wasdepressed. The two bolts that
attach the caliper were loose and had not been tightened when reassembled
The car was towed back to the repair shop and re-repaired,with parts that had fallen off replaced.
The owner reimbursed us for the towing charge but said “I won’t do anything more for you”.
The repair work done incompetently. I paid over $300 to have my life and my wife’s life put at serious risk. That the car
was returned to us in such a dangerous condition is unacceptable. That the owner expects to be paid for such incompetence is outrageous.
Using this repair shop can endanger your life!
