Even though all items or boxes were clearly labled, as to which room to be dropped off, they left a lot of heavy items in the garage. My excercise equipment clearly labelled 'Attic', was left in the Garage, which is at the basement level. I had checked all the rooms for that very reason, but forgot to check the garage. I realised this just after they had been paid, but before the movers left and told them. They refused to come back to move the items.
A 32 inch TV, a paper shredder, several boxes of brand new items, that had just been delivered to me before the move are missing. When I contacted the office of New York Van Lines, they acknowledged having only the TV and the paper shredder in their office and denied knowledge of any other items that are missing. I asked them repeatedly, when I will recieve the items that were left in their truck, and never dropped off. I was told, 'Whenever a truck is in their area'. It is over a week since I moved, and I am yet to recieve the missing items.
I sent pictures of the damaged items to the owner, Lisa but she never contacted me. I had to contact her several times and the company says, they will only pay 0.30 cents/ lb of damaged items. This will amount to nothing for my damaged expensive furniture.
They also have very discourteous office staff and misrepresented or deliberately witheld information pertinent to my making a decision about the move. The moving staff insisted for instance, after the furniture arrived at the addresss, that they would have to be paid, before they drop them off and go back to get more furniture. When I insisted that they would be paid at the end of the move, they threatened to drop all my furniture in front of the house. When I contacted the office, the dispatcher confirmed this was their policy. The only problem, is that this 'Policy' was not stated in the contract that I signed.
The beds which they had assembled hurriedly, were all falling apart the next day. I had to call a handy man to help me put the kids' beds back together.
Altogether, this move was a terrible experience.
