This engagement did not go well. I had to chase the contractor to even set a date. In the posting and during our first call, he offered to purchase the materials and bill me for them. During our first call, he offered to come a few days later to estimate the materials, but canceled at the last minute. A few days before the scheduled work, I called the contractor again to confirm the date (and chased him again to finally get an answer), and he said he wouldn't be able to get the materials after all, and I had to provide them myself ASAP. After running out to the hardware store late the evening before, I bought everything needed for the work to begin the next day. The drywaller that showed up on the appointed day showed up promptly, and was incredibly polite. He set about working in the space, however after the first day, only 3 sheets of drywall had been hung. The same person returned the next day with a second person, and between two of them, they hung 6 more sheets of drywall that day and started doing some of the taping and plastering. They started cleaning up on the 2nd day about 2 hours early and suggesting that I needed to purchase more days so they could finish. I inspected the work they had done, however slowly, and the quality was very low. Large gaps existed just about everywhere (around fixtures, between panels, etc.), and the seams they had plastered had large bubbles in the tape, or did not use tape at all. Rather than throw good money after bad, I asked them to leave and finished the work myself, including re-plastering/re-taping nearly everything and sanding, in only a few hours (it's only a 10x10 space). I'm equally ok with contractors that do slow, high quality work, or do cheap, fast work, as long as they're meeting the needs of the customer (and I honestly would have taken either for this small project). But instead, what I received was slow, low-quality work, much of which had to be re-done. In short, my search for a quality drywall contractor in Brooklyn continues, and so should yours.
