There was always an excuse for him not coming. He kept coming back for more money - beyond what was stipulated in the contract. Unfortunately, my mother was too trusting and gave it to him. Now, all of his phone numbers are disconnected and the work is NOT done, yet he has $25,000 of my 72-year old mother's retirement savings. We are filing a complaint with the attorney general. We met Sean Diehl of Home Design and Remodeling Inc in September of 2010. He is a personable man and we did what we thought to be all the right things before hiring him. We checked on line for complaints, none. We checked with the Better Business Bureau, no problems in fact they had not even heard of him, that should have been our first clue. We then checked his work, he showed us his mothers home which he said he built from the ground up. . Everything looked in order. We contracted him to do a remodel on a home we had purchased in Johnstown PA. The home was vacant and he had complete run of the place, no furniture or people to get in the way. We contracted for a Master Bath, a Powder room, siding and gutters, all plumbing and electrical to be updated and or replaced as needed. New floors, wall to wall carpet, floor leveling as needed, a complete new kitchen. We had individual contracts for the work to be done. We then took a trip to Lowe's where we picked out exactly what we wanted. All permits and requirements of the city were to also be the responsibility of Mr. Diehl and his company. We paid him in full. Not long after the ink had dried on the contracts did the problems start. One personal issue or another became an excuse not to show up and do the work. The Contracts were signed in October and all the work was to be completed by, at the latest the middle of February. The siding and gutters were to be installed when the weather broke in the spring no later then March/April. What happened next is what gives all contractors a bad name. It's sad that people like this are allowed to remain in business.1) Delays spiraled into weeks into Months often without any appearance from the contractor. When asked what was going on I got daily lies. Yeah lies, like "I'll be there tomorrow at 9...or next week I have my A team coming to your house, or see you in an hour, on and on with no appearance. When push came to shove and we had to move to our newly remodeled home we had to move in with relatives because the place was unlivable, that was May! To date we have no counter tops, no siding, no gutters, not one room in the home is completed! He totally trashed our home, made a filthy mess, refused to give us a refund OR DO THE WORK. What work he did was shoddy, the floors uneven, buckling, tiles lose, had to call in Roto Rooter to fix the plumbing and get all the proper permits, which Home Design and Remodeling failed to do. He also started substituting cheap toilets and materials for the items we had picked out and paid for. When asked for a refund he said to do so would put him out of business! I would say run do not walk away from Home Design and Remodeling they will take your money and split. They will do shoddy work, they will not complete major items and refuse to refund your money. Mr. Diehl claims to be the master carpenter and one doing the major portion of the important work on your job he will vanish and send in sub contractors who he has just hired and don't even know how to do some of the work. They told us straight up they didn't. Would you want this company in your home? I think not! To date our saving are depleted trying to make the home livable and Mr. Diehl refuses to do the work or refund the money. Crook and Conman are the words that come to mind when describing him. His workers also told us that we are not alone he does this to others!!! Usually they would complain when he wasn't paying them either. So take it from us, don't let this man into your house or you will regret it.
