. Eddie was very helpful and recommended a few vendors for cabinets, counter tops, fixtures & appliances, all vendors spoke highly of Eddie and was very helpful in helping me make decisions. Eddie and his guys nailed the project and I want to thank them for all the dedicated work they put into my project.

ET left me with an ILLEGAL kitchen renovation
One of the worst contracting experiences ever and I'm an architect so have worked with many contractors and that says a lot.  I fired ET after 2 months of very little progress and incredibly poor quality work (from use of unskilled unsupervised subcontractors) on my own 25sf kitchen renovation and had to have other contractors finish off installation of cabinets and appliances, and fix the work that wasn't done correctly by ET.  More importantly though, ET had completed the electrical work (which I payed them for in full) and by contract and law they are required to close out on the electrical permit for this work, which they didn't do.  Added to that, it turned out that ET did not use a licensed electrician to do the work, they did it themselves.  This is ILLEGAL.  After 8 months of emails and phone calls and getting nowhere I finally filed a complaint with the Department of Building and am awaiting their review and feedback.  I chose ET because their price was good for a small job and the owner made me all sorts of assurances in terms the skills of his men, the level of supervision and their capabilities generally.  ET blatantly oversold themselves, deliberately undercut on pricing to get the job and then didn't service it.  The owner Eddie Torres even boasted to me about the other much bigger projects he was working on while he was not servicing my job!!  It ended up costing me a lot more money in the end to have others come in late and finish the work, and I will likely have to have the electrical work redone in order to get the permit ET refuse to close out on as it appears it doesn't meet code.   I could write a huge list on the general contracting things that they did poorly and unprofessionally.  If you want more details email me through Angies List.

Eddie and his team started the project when they said they would. They demolished the upstairs bathroom and did a fantastic job with installation despite encountering some unforeseen problems--mold from numerous leaks and a tub that was two inches longer than was standard. The tile work in the upstairs bathroom was incredible. I loved it. Eddie and Francisco took their craft seriously and implemented an incredible design. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE LOVE LOVE the upstairs bathroom. I could sit in there all day. That's how great it is.
The downstairs bathroom is also quite beautiful. My only comment is that Eddie is quite strong-willed and a wee bit stubborn especially if he doesn't like something. I had some incredible Italian tiles from a friend. The tile was admittedly thicker than standard bathroom tile. Eddie didn't think I should use it. However, I was trying to keep my expenses down for tile and really loved the tile and wanted to use it. Eddie complained about it but finally relented. He ended up conceding that it was nice tile after installation. But the negativity added unneeded stress.
Overall, I would highly recommend ET Construction. My only comment and I suspect this would be true of all contractors is that the time estimate was way off. I concede that I expected that and that there was some delay because of the mold and other adjustments along the way, but what was going to take three weeks, ended up taking about 8 (they're not quite done yet so it might be longer).

1) What a horrible experience and I advise everyone to STAY AWAY from this contractor. Initial contract (#1) was signed June 4, 2013 and was never completed SIX months afterwards. In fact, I completely gave up hope on this contractor and ended up hiring another electrician to complete the work. This contractor had every excuse in the book for why the job was not completed in a timely fashion. Mind you the contract was for a one month work duration. From and quot;family problemsand quot; to and quot;my electrician left meand quot;, and quot;I lost my phoneand quot;, and quot;I traveled and cannot get phone connectionand quot; to whatever else one can think of, this contractor did not complete the job. Weeks turned into months and eventually it became so ridiculous, I was ready to pull my hair out. Unfortunately, by the fourth month, I had paid a significant amount of the contract and thus it did not make sense for me to find another contractor. Nonetheless, things got so bad, that I eventually had to do just that. Furthermore, the work he did was lousy. In the kitchen, he hooked up the microwave, dishwasher, refrigerator and three GFI outlets to one junction box. Needless to say, within one month of using these appliances, the box blew and I had to shell out more money to rewire work that he already did. Given that this contract was electrical, it really hampered my ability to complete other parts of the renovation.
2) I made the mistake of giving him another contract on 9/6/2013 because I genuinely bought into his tall tales. Eddie is a likeable fella and therefore, I gave him the benefit of the doubt and actually believed his stories. Huge mistake. This contract was also not completed. Why do you ask? Well it is hard to completely frame, sheetrock, plaster and paint IF THE ELECTRICAL WORK has not been completed. Because of his failure to complete the first job, he could not complete this task. For the life of me, I could not understand why the electrical work was a problem with him and why he could not just subcontract it out. In reading the reviews on this site, it is obvious that he was doing other jobs while in contract with me. Telling me all kind of lies and never completing his job.
It should not take six to seven months to complete any job. His was the rate limiting step so he cannot blame anyone else. The demolition was done. The plumbing was done. He just had to complete the electrical work so things could move along. He never did and I ended up losing money in hiring another contractor. He even had the nerve to ask for his balance. Eventually Eddie went away and I am glad. DO YOURSELF a BIG FAVOR and do not hire this contractor.

ET Construction was thorough, thoughtful and professional. The work was done on time and within budget (I did have a few additional requests outside of the scope of the contract that I paid for). The bathroom hadn't been updated in decades and everything needed to be replaced. ET evened out the floor so the tile would lay correctly and was extremely paitent with me while I changed my mind and stalled on picking out paint colors, fixtures, etc. I cannot imagine a more communicative contractor. Easy to get a hold of and very responsive.
Also, ET had done work in my building previously so after inerviewing a few other contractors, we went with ET and are glad we did. Because they had done work in the building, they were aware of a leak in our neighbor's bathroom and worked with the head of our co-op board to make sure the neighbor's bathroom was fixed so that it wouldn't cause mold in our brand new bathroom. This took a lot of extra effort and follow through on ET's part and we really appreciated it. The finished bathroom looks great! We will definitely use this company again.

My Basement was needing a huge update plus i needed the extra space when family/friends came to stay by us. Eddie and his crew made my place spanking new: he helped with figuring out the best way to maximize the space, rearranged the layout/walls, installed a brand new kitchen and new bathroom. now it doesn't feel like its a basement apt in Brooklyn. The work was very neat and top-notch. i am very happy and plan to use him again.

I cannot overstate my disappointment with this Contractor's service. I urge you not to be swayed by seemingly reasonable prices -- you will pay far more than the contract amount and years later you will be cursing the incomplete work and shoddy workmanship in your home.

At every step in the process, ET Construction could not meet deadlines and asked for more money to perform work within the original bid scope. Initially we were promised a one-month time frame for completion of the contract work, and we were assured that the signed contract listing scope and prices were all-inclusive. The project began to go weeks, then months, and now years past the schedule and ET Construction continually asked for advance payments and additional services payments. Desperate to get our home finished, we foolishly paid ahead for services and materials, assuming that the contractor -- who is also our neighbor! -- would come though. It has been over two years since we signed a contract with ET Construction and to date we have paid 211% of the contract price and the work is about 70% complete. We have tried in good faith many, many times to resolve the situation without seeking legal action or making our troubles public. ET's response each time was to send a worker to evaluate the amount of work left... and then ask us for more money. The lengthy punch list of incomplete work -- work that we have already paid for twice over! -- has become a sad joke, as it has been taped to our front door for a year and a half with absolutely no progress.

Most disappointingly, ET Construction's personnel, who initially seemed warm and professional, now pretend not to see my husband and I when we meet them on our block, which happens several times a week.

I don't take lightly the task of writing a negative review about my neighbor. I wish that I could support a local business and help them grow. But I cannot keep my bad experience to myself and take the chance that others will go through the same thing.

"I will not go into too much detail because then it will sound like I am bashing and that is not my style especially that I really liked her and her husband Walter. I will just say this is a perfect example of a home owner who tries to act as a GC thinking that they would save money and then realize they don't have the time to stay on top of the handyman or rookie carpenters and spend all this money on shabby work . Then a GC comes in to take over a un finish Project and the client wants to try to make up for all the mistakes they made from the beginning and expect the GC to take a lost which I did just to get out of the situation. Just a few examples plumbing not done to code or done according to the needs of the fixtures purchase so of course time to reconfigure plumbing to install bathroom sink. Plumbing wrong and not to code for Water less urinal and had to work magic with existing plumbing and custom plumbing to install urinal with out having to rip out plumbing. This one was so surprising and mind bothering I would not work in the house until it was complete, electrical panel box had all wiring connected straight through the front of panel with out being grounded and connected with bx connectors. I can go on and on with all code violations but I won't. As a GC I try to make everyone satisfied and even go beyond the call of duty but there will always be that one person that just started the project the wrong way and can't be satisfied at all especially when they shelled out a lot of there funds and don't have efficient funds to complete the project the correct way. I will continue providing top services and my reviews will continue to speak for themselves. I never thought to respond to this negative review until many of my clients insist for me to do so. I wish Jennifer and Walter the best of luck"
