Bob & Sons Refinishing

I contacted Bob and Sons after getting quotes from several refinishers. Bob and Sons quote was much lower than the other refinishers and after reading reviews I decided to take a chance. With no hesitation I would higher recommend Bob and Sons. This family business is extremely professional and the nicest guys. My project was my grandmothers China Cabinet which was in poor poor shape, I had bricks holding up the bottom shelf, it was a far cry to think it could be restored, but I wanted to try since it had sentimental value. The cabinet came back to me as if it just come out of the show room. Anytime I called leaving a message Daniel responded within a reasonable amount of time. They did a great job and it was a pleasure working with them. I would not hesitate to use them again and to recommend Bob and Sons to friends and family.

Bob and Dan visited to give an estimate of the kitchen cabinet work. At the time I had no idea I was going to order additional new cabinets. After the estimate, I showed Bob the hope chest that I thought wasnt worth restoring. He assured me he could restore the finish.Bob left with the hope chest and we agreed on a price to strip and refinish the chest and cabinets. I was to call him when I was ready to start work in the kitchen . What started out as a kitchen upgrade turned into a complete demo and expansion. I ordered the new set of additional cabinets without a finish, and new unfinished  doors for my 30 year old cabinets. Amazingly, the cabinet maker from 30 years ago was still in business.  Upon delivery of my new cabinets, Bob and Dan, with the help of other family members came and took the new cabinets to their shop. They also took the new doors for the older cabinets that were staying put. All the new cabinets and doors were finished in their shop.When all the shop work was finished, they delivered all the pieces wrapped in corrigated cardboard and brown paper. Also delivered was the hope chest which I had completely forgotten about. The stripping process and sanding was all done by hand with sandpaper grits I never knew existed. Any exposed surfaces were masked. After staining (Bob made 3 visits with 3 different shades of stain until I was happy with the color) 5 coats of finish was power sprayed on. I was concerned when I put the new cabinets next to the the old cabinets, that the finish would be different. I was wrong.They blended the color of the stain so the older and newer cabinets matched exactly. Bob recomended a satin finish over a gloss that I had wanted. They were right. The satin finish looks awesome.They did a tremendous job with my kitchen project and I could not believe the hope chest was the same one.

Was recommended to Bob and Sons by a close friend. Danny and staff were always professional over the phone. Process was to take a picture of the furniture, which was in pretty rough shape (from my grandmother's home that we sold). I sent the picture via e-mail. They quoted me the price, which was a little high, but item has sentimental value to me. They delivered the server back in the time frame promised, and they restored it beautifully. They picked up and delivered the furniture. Before they did the stain they visited my home to see which shade I'd prefer. I am considering using them again for another project, but hopefully the price will be more manageable.

To begin with it all seemed positive, they made all the right noises. On quoting me the price it seemed a little high but they continually assured me that I was getting a good deal and they couldn't go any lower. Now, it was my fault for not doing my research but a lot of trust was put into them and I believed what they were telling me. After the project I learned that I overpaid by quite a lot.
For the end of the job I was away and I was assured that I would come home to a beautiful finished product. This was expected because the job was already weeks overdue. While I was away they never showed up and my housemate had to continually call them to get them to come to do the job promised in the time allocated. Because they were absent for most of my time away they came the day before my return and did a horrendously sloppy and rushed job.
I had to call them back to finish the issues but on a couple returns to fix these issues, I realized the product would never be at the standard it should have been for the price paid, so I decided to take the loss.
I believe them to be lazy and greedy but it taught me the valuable lesson that you have to do your home work with contractors.
Issues with the work.
*The Stain was streaky and parts were missed
*The stairs were muddy in color and inconsistent with the rest of the job.
*Nails and the like were left in the wood and simply painted over.
*Overcharged on everything and was even asked for additional money
*Overall a terrible job
