I bought an old dilapidated house 3 years ago, and hired ALCO to rebuild it. Out of 4 general contractors I interviewed at the time, ALCO was the only one who gave me detailed written estimate. In addition, I had a chance to see remodeling work they did in professional office. Demolition was instant. Only the outside walls and the roof were left standing. Old plumbing, 80 years old wiring, floors, partition walls, floors, windows - everything was gone in 3 days. Construction, obviously, took a bit longer. In fact, nothing was ever completed in time (I believe, this is a signature trait of every licensed contractor). When completed, however, the job was very well done. Alex (the contractor) was very helpful with multiple suggestions during construction, be it design ideas, or changes in the architectural plans, or additions we did not think of initially. For example, he gave us an idea of installing a steam shower unit in the shower stall - we can't believe we lived without it, or installing washer and dryer next to the bedroom, rather than in the basement - such a pleasure not to run up or down the stairs with the laundry loads. He designed the cabinetry, the kitchen, even the entertainment center, everything was build in his shop in Brooklyn. Of course, there were things done not to our liking initially, but correcting those was never a problem. We did exceed the initial budget - by about 15%, but mostly because of additions to the plan we came up with during the work. So, 3 years later the house has no drafts and is very energy efficient, the carpentry looks very well, the kitchen still looks new, plumbing does not leak, and we enjoy living in a new house.
Description of Work: Demolition; basement excavation (dropped the floor level by 1.5'); construction - walls, floors, ceilings, roof; plumbing, including custom bathroom design, radiant heating; electrical wiring; central air conditioning design and installation; kitchen design, manufacturing, and installation; custom made closets. Basically, building the entire house.
