From the first phone call, The Shade Company was super-responsive and professional. Roy Aviram, one of the principals, made a site visit and couldn't have been more patient in helping me choose the right shades for the application. He was prompt and thorough in providing samples and estimates and his price was competitive with other high-end window shade suppliers, especially when the Angie's List discount was applied.  He also offered a 50% discount on the installation cost.
I was operating on a tight timetable and Roy was able to speed my order through the workshop in record time.  He efficiently worked with my building to provide proper insurance documentation and to make arrangements for special elevator access for a 168" wide shade.
The installers arrived right on time and were clearly very experienced at what they do.  We had opted for surface-mount wiring to save the need for involving an electrician (and making a huge mess) and the installers were expert at concealing the wiring and neatly covering it when it could not be hidden.  They went out of their way to provide and install additional wire covers for a couple of applications not related to the shades. They did everything with a smile. And they patiently answered all of my questions.  They were careful to protect my furniture and belongings and did pretty good job of cleaning up after themselves, though there was some dust left behind where drill holes were made and I cleaned that up myself.
A set of curtains did not make it in time for the installation, but everyone worked together to get them delivered and installed the very next business day.
The finished product looks great and the wireless remotes work well. 
 The office and billing staff were super responsive and professional. Throughout the process, there was only one miscommunication and it was cleared up quickly.

I had submitted a review with a grade of B originally but i am writing another review after a lengthy and awful experience. I am not really one to often write reviews, but in this case i feel it is necessary to try and keep anyone else from ever having to deal with the worst company i have ever worked with.
Oct 11 2013 -consultation (first day I had to take off from work)
The morning of the consultation they called after the start of normal business hours to tell me that they could not make the appointment i had made two weeks in advance. The woman on the phone told me that the sales person would be at another job and wouldn't have time to see me today. This was after i had taken the day off of work to keep the appointment. they did call back a little bit later with a appointment on the same day.  the consultant was very friendly and thorough. and the woman who originally scheduled the appointment was genuinely sorry for the inconvenience so I decided to go with them anyway.

after having the consultation a week before i was sent a proposal for the job. Unfortunately i was immediately informed that the numbers in my proposal were completely wrong and that they would revise it and send me a new one.
Oct 23rd
finally received the corrected proposal agreed upon it.
Nov 5th
actual proposal actual sent to sign.
Nov 8th (Second day I had to take off from work)
a second consultant was scheduled for this day to double check the first guys measurements.
Nov 18th
order for materials actually submitted.
Nov 25th
no word from them for quite a while so I emailed them asking about the status, They relied the next day saying the materials still needed another week to be finished. and installation was scheduled for Dec 9th (almost two full months since first consultation)
Dec 9 (third day I had to take off from work)
the first installation appointment. Most things went very well, the guys installing the shades were very nice and did a great job. However half of the curtain rings needed to complete the job were missing. Upon investigation they had forgotten to order them.  I called their offices and was told that they would defiantly be able to have the rings in early in the week and should have everything installed by the end of the week. When I called the office and spoke to the manager he made it seem like it was no big deal that they couldn't finish the installation when they said they would. and even though the rings are a off the shelf product he tried to convince me that they had to be custom made. Only after being forced into a argument with the manager did they try and compensate me, by taking $200 off the job ( less than 2% of the actual cost of the job) I thought this was fair but was appalled at how the manager immediately began yelling at me over the phone. I thought that it was only fair to compensate me a bit for having to take another unpaid day off of work to complete the installation (The next installation would be the fourth day of work missed)

I had not heard anything about the missing rings, and since i was told that they would defiantly be there in a few days i called to inquire about them. I was told that they hadn't heard anything from the company that makes them but they should defiantly be there by friday (dec 13)

I was called by a woman at their offices who informed me that only half the rings had come but they were trying to rush the rest of them, but they would defiantly be there by tuesday morning. So i scheduled a appointment for that wednesday the fourth day i would have to take off of work for these curtains.
Dec 18 (fourth day I had to take off from work)
Finally they said that they had the rings and would be installing them. I made a appointment for 11 am, however they called me at 1:00 to tell me they still only had half the rings they needed. The woman that was dealign with this was actually extremely helpful however. she told me that she had actively been calling UPS to get the package there as soon as possible. at 3:00 the installation guys came with the rings they did have and began the installation. by 4 however the rest of the rings had still not shown up. the 18th is my birthday and i had a dinner with family that evening and needed to leave the house by 5:30 at the latest to make the dinner on time. So I again called the main office and told them if the rings were not there by five that i wasn't going to be continuing the installation. I also talked to the guys installing them and they said they could get the curtains up with what they had but they wouldn't look right.  I was called a few minutes later by the manager who told me that the rings would not get to my house on time. I told the manager i would not be able to take a Fifth day off from work to have the instillation finished, and that i would just like to have the missing rings removed from my bill. and end the project. Immediately the manager began to argue with me about taking the rings off the bill and insisting they schedule another installation to finish. when i refused he began to argue with me insulting me and berating me for some how not being patient enough with them ( almost 3 months after i started working with them) Finally after 15 minutes of arguing with the manager he agreed to take the rings that never came off my bill.
Other reviews of this company say the work was great but it took along time. I read these and thought a long time meant a few weeks. not a few months. Ironically most of the customer service was very good the girl Aya on the phone went above and beyond to try and fix a mistake. The manager however was the rudest person i have ever dealt with. He consistently tried to make it seem like their mistakes were some how completely fine to make, even though every time they made one I had to take another day off work. He was constantly combative even about the simplest of issues. The enormous amount of time this took seems to be directly related to the manager, as he was in charge of overseeing the ordering of all the materials. which not only were ordered late but were ordered incorrectly twice. It took this company longer to instal curtains than it did for me to gut and remodel an entire apartment. It not only took a enormous amount of time for the work done, but they never actually finished the job, and cost me most of my vacation time at work.
I would not recommend working with this company to my worst enemy.

It went perfect.  They were respectful of my house put on footies also.  They gave me advice of what to do for my windows and it saved me money.  There was a crack on my wall that they fixed as well.  They are very efficient and always on time as well.

Eran came to our apartment and helped us to pick out a shade for our large window. We ended up ordering a different shade, and they accommodated the change no problem. Tatiana and Kelly kept us up to date on the order status and set up a convenient install date. The installation was tricky due to uneven prewar construction of the window frame, but the installer took his time and the result is perfect. They were prompt and professional every step of the way. It was a pleasure to deal with the Shade Company and we highly recommend them.

I was very comfortable with our initial consultation  - the time taken to discuss options and get to know our style and our needs. We were pleasantly surprised to be contacted for an installation appointment right after Hurricane Sandy. The installer arrived on time and we learned that he had driven 3 hours in traffic to reach our apartment and was turning around to go back. From start to finish, we were very impressed with the quality of and dedication to customer service.

I would recommend them.  They were really terrific and they did a good job because it was a complicated shade.  It had a pattern and they had to shave off a quarter inch on each side and then finish it the same way in order to add this chain.  It was great.  In fact, I was thinking about calling them to do two more windows.

All of the work done was excellent.  One caveat that may, or may not, prove important over the long run:  the pull cords on the shades are thin.  The gentleman sent out to measure was extremely professional and informed.  The saleswoman with whom we dealt was very responsive.

Originally, I was pleased with my shades, even though it took longer to have them installed that I would have preferred.  In just over a year, the chord broke and the company charged me for another visit to remove and repair them.  That took another bit of time and the shades are still not what they should be.  I would never use this company and cannot suggest them to other Angie's List users.  Look elsewhere for your shades.  When I mentioned that the shades broke after just one year, I was advised that was because the company that made the shades was not very good and went out of business.  Then why did they recommend this company to me in the first place?

All of the shades, blinds and curtains were well made with high quality fabric and materials and they were perfectly installed. The people at Shade Co. are a delight to work with and very responsive. When we weren't happy with one of the curtains, they promptly changed it for us at no extra cost. I would highly recommend them for any job.

After speaking with Milana and Janyl from the Shade Co., Daniel was dispatched promptly to check out the problem. He was professional, attentive and knowledgeable. It wasn't going to be an easy fix. They couldn't just replace the spring but a whole new mechanism had to be implemented with a pull chain. To make it all fit back in the window, the shade had to be slightly trimmed on each side and bound the same way as the other matching shades. The rough estimate was going to be anywhere between $200-$400. I held my breath but went with it since I had no choice but to get it done. Daniel took the shade with him and promised to let me know the exact price once he talked with his experts. Imagine my ecstatic surprise when the price ended up being less than $200! Milana & Janyl kept in touch with me every step of the way about progress and timing. I have NEVER dealt with more on-the-ball people and company in all my 20+ yrs of dealing with various service-oriented businesses in NYC! Daniel installed the new & improved shade yesterday and it looks works great. Wish I had them do the original job. I cannot say enough about this company and the people I dealt with!!! I am much more motivated to do more, just knowing that I have the Shade Co. as a resource.

The product is excellent. They took longer than I would have preferred to get the shades installed (I was told 2 weeks, but it ended up being more like 6), but they blamed the manufacturer. We seem to have a difference of opinion on what "top down/bottom up" means so, although I now have beautiful shades, they are not exactly what we discussed in the initial visit. I would suggest you use them, but be VERY clear about what they can do for you and what you really want.

Called and scheduled an appointment for the same week. Representative (who also installed the shades) was on time and brought a lot of samples for me to choose from. He was very knowledgeable about the shades and patiently explained how much light each variety would let in or keep out. He measured the windows and told me the shades would be ready in about 10 days. He also asked if I wanted valances and I said, "no". Ten days later, as promised, the shades were ready and installed the next day. He and the other installer were very neat and vacuumed up when finished. Then I decided I really needed the valances, so he measured and said he would be back in 10 days. The valances were finished right on time and installed. What I thought was particularly nice is that the company gave me a discount on the valances which was the same amount as the installation charge.

I absolutely love my window treatments that were designed and installed by The Shade Company. The Staff was a pleasure to work with from start to finish. They truly went the "extra mile!"
