The movers arrived to pick up our stuff on time and were very friendly. I had a couple of items that I was not sure how to pack - an antique lamp from my grandmother and a vacuum. I asked the movers if they had any advice, they told me not to worry about it, they would take care of it. I also had a cd shelf which was a little unsturdy. I had planned to take it apart for the move. The movers told me that was not necessary, it would be fine.
While we were waiting for our things, I called the movers several times to check on our things. They could not give me any information. The day before our things were supposed to get here, they told me that our stuff had not left New York. Two days later, our things had still not left New York. Then I was told that the truck broke down. I finally received a call saying that our stuff would get here the next day and to wait for their call to schedule it. They never called me. When I called them, they told me that their truck had broken down.
The movers finally arrived with our stuff 8 or 9 days late. As they were unloading, I noticed several of the boxes were damaged. The sides were punctured of pushed in. The wardrobe box was carried in upside down. The cd shelf they told me not to worry about was smashed to pieces. After they left, I noticed several other items were also damaged. They lost a shelf that went in our entertainment center as well as some of the fixtures that went in our file cabinets. The bottom of a file cabinet was snapped in half. The bottom piece of the vacuum cleaner was also snapped off and was hanging from the bag by a wire. The corners of our coffee table were damaged. Sadly, when I unpacked the boxes I discovered that they had put the paper lamp shade that went with my antique lamp in a box with a bunch of heavy rods from our floor lamps. There was only one sheet of paper wrapped around the lamp shade as padding. As one might expect, the shade was badly damaged.
When I called about the damaged items, no one would listen to my complaints; I was told to send an email and they would get me a claim form. I sent the email and got no reply. A little over a week later, I sent another email, and finally got a reply with a link to their claims forms.
Overall, this move was a nightmare. While I understand that they did not guarantee us a specific date, they should not have misrepresented their ability to get stuff here by a specific date. Moreover, if they could not handle packing a few of our items appropriately, they should not have told me they would take care of it.
