Movers showed up 2 hours late (and only after I called 4 times to complain).  They broke about 10 items (including a couch), and they took 30 minutes to travel the 10 blocks!  They ended up being so late that my building's move-in window had closed, and we were forced to pay for storing our items over the Labor Day weekend.

When they came back after the long weekend, they refused to move the items out of their truck until I paid them in cash, instead of the credit card on file.  Who carries thousands of dollars in cash on hand?

After the move, I called about the damaged items (I had purchased insurance).  They gave me a form to fill out and asked me to send photos.  I did so.  Apparently they tore up the photos and dumped my claim in their trash.  The only reason I found this out is because I ended up having to go to court, and got the details from them in a legal proceeding.  I shouldn't have even bothered, because the 2k in damages I got went to pay for my attorney.

BEWARE!!!

Movers were prompt, efficient and courteous. They arrived in a timely manner, unassembled all of the furniture required and protected everything accordingly. They worked continuously until completion. I would highly recommend using Ben Hur.

They arrived nearly an hour early, and did the job they were hired to do. Seemed to have the proper equipment-- padded blankets, dollies, etc. The move went very smoothly, and there were no hidden extra charges. Nothing was broken or lost in the move. All was finished in a timely manner.
Please note: It was actually my daughter who was moving, and she was the one who hired Ben Hur and paid the company. My husband and i were around to keep an eye on things. My daughter paid them when the job was finished.

My negative experience started a half an hour after the moving crew arrived. I went out to the truck to ask a question and found 2 of the men urinating on my garage. Also, at this time, I was informed by the lead man that my tip would have to be made in cash. The real problems began with the delivery. The lead man on the crew (not the same man from the pick-up) was one of the rudest people I have ever dealt with. He called me at 6;30 the night before the delivery and demanded that I pay my balance in cash the next morning. I told him that would not be possible and I had not been given advance notice of this by the company. Since I had just moved to Florida and did not yet have bank account here and couldn't come up with $2,000. in cash overnight. I then called the United States Moving (the company I originally contracted the job withand hellip; they had farmed the job out to Ben Hur) and arranged for the use of my credit card. At this time I was informed that the movers who had pick-up my belongings in CT had packed 18 boxes, incurring $400. in additional charges. At least 10 of these boxes were packed without my knowledge when the items were taken out to the truck. I was told that they need t be labeled since this was a consolidated move. The label could have been affixed to the items themselves and didn't need to be boxed. I understood that a few items needed to be boxed but pieces of furniture and other items (like a weed whacker, end tables etc.) did not need to be boxed and could have been wrapped in padding. When the crew arrived he again demanded cash and when I told him the company said I could use the credit card, he spent half an hour stomping around my front yard yelling into his cell phone, drawing the attention of my new neighbors. To say that my belongings were handled carelessly would be a gross understatement. About 25% of the boxes were severely damaged but the real damage was to several pieces of furniture. A large piece of vanier on a night table was broken off and the legs on 3 tables were broken off. He argued with me for several minutes that they were not and ldquo;brokenand rdquo; but and ldquo;detachedand rdquo;. He was so loud that one of the neighbors came over and asked if I would like him to intervene. Lastly, a dressing table was missing. When I mentioned that, he just snapped at me that he didn't know anything about that. I informed the company of the missing dressing table after they left. Five days later they still had not done anything to look for the table but offered me a settlement. I refused it since they hadn't looked for the table. Finally, after 2 months of calling 2 or 3 times a week, they informed that my dressing table had been found. I was very grateful to have it back however it was returned with a 9and rdquo; gauge in the top and the drawers filled with garbage. In the end, I was reimbursed about $300. For all of the damages (which didn't nearly cover the cost of the needed repairs) and boxes that were needlessly packed. There were also shuttle fees and long-carry fees added on at the last minute, which added up to nearly $1,000. Not once during this whole ordeal did I hear the words and ldquo;I'm sorryand rdquo; from anyone I dealt with. I have never had a worse experience with a contractor!!!

The move that should have taken about 3 hours took about 9 hours. I called the company to let them know about how unsatisfied I was. The supervisor of the move was not helping the other 2 movers. The 2 younger guys that were with the supervisor did what they could without assistance from the supervisor. The original price was $1200.00 and they reduced the price by approximately $200.

I was very pleased, except that they broke a dining chair. We didn't take the insurance because the deductible was $500. But that is common with all the moving companies. We moved expensive things ourselves so we wouldn't have to worry. But other than that, we got more than our money's worth. I believe that they underestimated the amount of stuff I could cram into my junior 4. So our estimate worked in our favor. The workers were very polite and worked like crazy to get done just a little over 8 hours with just a little off for lunch. I did give them all a great tip and lunch. We did all the packing (save furniture) ourselves, but even so this price was significantly below the other estimates that I recieved from other moving companies. Having the flat rate was key. I got 15% off the price and they provided wardrobe boxes for free. Another issue was that communication wasn't great. I had to make sure to get the estimate and to call to confirm. But for the price, it was worth it.

They did a good job, nothing was broken, and the price was good, but they took too long doing it. One of them spent too long playing psychologist, telling me how I needed to relax, instead of working. They seemed well trained but a bit unprofessional.

The were very affordable compared to three other NY movers. For the first NYC->Boston move, they had a man come to give me a binding estimate. They included boxes at not extra charge. The cost was right-on, even though I had a bit more to move. And the movers were quick, courteous, and unfortunately 1 piece of glass broke despite good crating. For the Boston to NY move, every quote I got was 2x-5x more than when I moved from NYC. I ended up calling BenHur again and they moved me for LESS then when I moved to Boston! They came EARLY and showed up on-time the next morning in Long Island. Again, another small piece of glass broke, but everything else made it in excellent condition.

They promised 4 guys and brought 5 at no extra charge. Estimate was for $875, final price was $875. Arrived on time and worked without breaks. Moved quickly and efficiently. Nothing broke but some of the furniture had dings. Perhaps they moved a bit too quick, but the nevertheless it was a job well done.

I called a number of places and all of their minimums were at least $500 dollars or had little availability. The guys showed up on time and were careful with everything.

THEY DIDN'T PICK US UP AFTER THEY MOVED ALL OF OUR THINGS. THEY DIDN'T INFORM ME THAT THEY COULDN'T PICK US UP. THEY NEVER CALLED US BACK, WE JUST HAD TO KEEP TRYING TO REACH THEM. THEY KEPT DELAYING THE MOVE. IN THE END, I JUST GAVE UP ON THEM.
